It annoys me watching how good Suarez is. No amount of money should have had us sell him. And even when we did consider it (because of his ban), it should have been on the proviso that Sanchez came to us.

How the fcuk did we end up with Markovic, Lallana and Balotelli.. what a waste of money.

Gary Neville was saying as much in his commentary for the Chelsea match and I found myself fully agreeing.

His co-commentator said how it was good for Liverpool financially, Nevilles reply was "Was it? They're not getting in the champions league and they've spent everything"

sucks

We probably held on to him a season longer than he wanted and as much as I agree with the sentiment of hanging on to him, in today's climate of player power, I am not sure if it would have been possible.
No doubt Neville failed to mention that Man U's inability to keep Ronaldo has had a direct impact on their decline.

It surely would have been tough to keep him and no doubt we'd have to put up with all sorts from the Suarez camp but if this was the big season where the CL money goes up and we really needed to be there then it feels like we could have tried harder.

I don't know mate.
It does seem like the owners decided to cut their losses once the mad fecker got his gnashers out again, That said there have been reports that there was contact/agreement with Barca about the sale prior, to the World Cup.
Who knows what is true.
I still wish we had the mad fecker here.

I've no inside track on this or anything, but I strongly suspect there was some kind of agreement in place about letting him go when we persuaded him to give us another season. My guess is that without such an agreement he'd have held out for a lower (perhaps far lower) release clause in his last contract.

Fair enough, I don't really remember the details and rumours now.

Maybe if he wins everything he'll come back 👎

That Barcelona front line is madness, 1 Suarez was enough to nearly get us the league but they have 3 forwards around that level.

Sorry mate but I don't think that we can leave this at just "agreeing to disagree" or whatever we are doing.
This is the point where we call each other cunts and follow each other around various other threads slagging the other one off.

Having the memory of a goldfish puts me in a weak position for starting arguments about things like this. I can call you a cunt until one of us gets a ban if you really want but it sounds like a lot of effort.

He was a volcano eruption away from signing for the mighty Blackburn. Great player.

He was close to signing for blackburn the summer Iceland soiled the skies? We really need to poach some of Dortmunds scouts / transfer committee

Yep. He was meant to get a flight over for a medical or something but couldn't because of the ash cloud and Dortmund swooped in instead.

Suarez is just unreal. Amazing.
Still some of our own fans cant seem to give him the credit he deserves.

3rd best player in the world for me.

No sour grapes from me only sweet memories of a player that gave his all - I watched him tonight as a fan. Not of Barca but just him. That flick over that Bayern defender was pant wettingly good! 😀

90% (at the very least) of this site wanted him gone once he bit a 2nd time. Unfortunately contractually we had no option anyway and at the time 75M (over US$125M) was considered a pretty good price all things considered.

My point all those eons ago was that if you sell your best player don't expect to improve next time out.

We could have told Luis we need a replacement lined up before he can leave. In this case give us Sanchez, Barca, and you can have Luis. You can be sure they'd have persuaded him.

No feckin' risk assessment training going on at Anfield is there?

It's admittedly guesswork either way, but I very much doubt that. I thought he'd probably have to go, but "wanted"? Not me.

1-0 Madrid after a very soft pen given (funny that).

The game's well poised.

Morata is really quite good after all.
