Cesc Fabregas

Not open for further replies.
I watched Everton v Arsenal at the weekend, and noticed that the Blue Shite have worked out a tactic to keep Fabregas quiet.

You push him over, and pin his neck to the ground with your knee! ;D

Best signing he has ever made.................

after Henry.

Christ Wenger has bought some wonderful players.

Pires, Campbell, Lundjberg, Bergkamp, RVP, Arshavin, Cole, Clichy, Toure Petit, Veira, Flamini. Overmars, Anelka..... this could go on an on.
Cole came through the ranks
Campbell was free, not "bought"
And Bruce Rioch signed Bergkamp.

He's also signed:
Wright
Reyes
Luhzny
Grimandi
Lauren
Van Bronckhorst
Jeffers
Cygan
Pennant
Stepanovs
I could go on...

For some whopping fees.

I once though Reyes was going to be a top top player. He didn't seem to enjoy being kicked though, I think I actually saw him cry during a united match when Neville et all kept hacking him down.

Cesc was blamed for throwing the pizza wasn't he. What I don't get is what premiership player has pizza with him on the sideline? Very bizarre.

The altercation happened outside their respective dressing rooms.

Many clubs (in a lot of different sports) offer pizza as a post-game 'treat' for various reasons actually. I'm not making that up either.

Why did I know there was going to be a thread on him.....again?

13 goals + 16 assists after playing in 23 games this season which were EPL & CL games only. not bad.

that was Matt Taylor for Bolton that did that, I lol'd at that moment, got away with it I think, think he also pulled fabregas' hair when he pinned him down lol.

He was electric that year until that game and never recovered.

Oops, sorry about that, I get confused with all this TV football. I was getting my Boltons mixed up with my Evertons - it's easily done.

It won't be long before he request a move, citing he needs to win more trophies.
Sure he's going to win the league this season.

Nope
Yep, Bruce Rioch singed him.

Accident with a lighter?

They let Upson go too early. Their defence hasn't been great since the keown and Campbell days, upson would have helped.
For various reasons anelka, flamini, diarra and cole all left and any of those 5 would improve pretty much any squad.

I'll have a go:

Campbell (arf!)
Henry
Lassana Diarra
Pires
Erm...

Bugger

Tends to get it right. It could certainly be argued that Henry and Pires (and the re-signed Sol) could have stayed on for longer, but I think Diarra is the best bet; he's a player they should *never* have let go

Ashley Cole?

Haha
Probably Flamini is the one they regret most

Agree though Fabregas for player of the season, I was there for the 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Anfield a couple of seasons back and he absolutely ran the game, superb player. Doesnt boss the game in a physical sense like Keane/Viera and on occasion Gerrard but his range of passing and link up play is far better then any other midfielder Ive seen in the Premiership, to think he could continue for another decade is scary

I believe so - don't think he's an automatic starter for the first team, but really have seen very very little of Milan, so not sure what they do these days.
Out of favour I read and apparently trying to go on loan back to the EPL. Man C?

That's a good shout actually Oncy.

Although he's 10 times the player now that he ever was at Arsenal. A Fine centre back.

Hows that wee prick Diarra doing these days?

Interesting debate on players we've let go. It was a real shame to lose Flamini when we did...at least we've now got Song but we definately missed him last season i felt (or Diarra, you could argue, but he was a wee moan)

Cole it would be nice to have but at the end of the day he turned into a complete wanker, theres no way we could have kept him.

Reyes, ultimately, was a failed signing but he was alot better than people actually seem to remember. I always liked him at Arsenal, was never happy though, unfortunately.

Upson would be good to have now, but he was right to leave when he did. He probably wouldn't be the player he was now had he stayed at Arsenal.

Campbell would have continued to do a job for us, but he was intent on leaving unfortunately, not really Wengers fault.

Vieria and Henry are tricky ones, but imo Wenger got them right. Just. Proven by Adebayors goals and the development of Fabregas including his performance against Juve.

What's your thoughts on Song NIG?

I'm impressed. Can have some laxadasical (sp?) moments, and often takes a few touches too many, but he looks a real player in there, and could prove to be a great partner for Fabregas long term.

I watched our game against Arsenal with a 'Gunner' and he couldn't stop raving about Song. He always comes across as incredibly clumsy to me, but seems to be maturing into the player Arsenal need in midfield by all accounts.

I watched the same game with a Gunner actually, and he's not a huge fan which suprised me.

He looks extremely confident on the ball, is super-fit, and could probably play a number of positions. He's like a bigger stronger Lass to me.

I'm sure I recall seeing him at CB for them, so I suppose he is quite versatile. Not quite as sure about the comparison to Diarra though as I think he has more ability on the ball - Song has always struck me a a destroyer with little else to his game. That is, unless he's improved significantly in the last 6-12 months.

He's very good on the ball Ken. Really comfortbal off both feet, has a good touch, and a bit of skill too. Not sure about his passing range though.

I like Song. He used to be a bit headless chicken but the last few times I've seen him, he's looked a good all-round midfielder. As DMs (I suppose), he and Diaby are still good ball players and get forward well on occasions. Diaby scored a cracker the other week if I remember, really good touch.
Wenger has pretty much done to Song what he did to Flamini; turn a non-specialist all rounder into a really competent, 1st XI centre midfielder.

He's yet to do that with Diaby, who despite being a pretty good footballer just doesn't have an identifiable position. He's not disciplined enough to play in the middle, and not good enough to displace Arshavin or Nasri on the wings. Nice problem to have though - good player, but just not sure where to fit him in.

He's been there for what, 4 years now, and still hasn't got a position you could say he's best in.

He's a remarkable player and wouldn't surprise me in the least to see him lift the title this season. If Van Persie can fire at the back end of the season then they'll have close to a complete team.

The one thing I'd be unsure about Cesc on is his fight when things aren't going his way. That CL game where we beat them after Babel's pen and that header from Sami always sticks in my mind. For the first half they absolutely destroyed us and were largely untouchable with Cesc playing out of this world. Second half, however, when things got tough and players had to stand up to win it we didn't see Cesc stand up and take the game away.

I know he's matured and grown since then but I'm yet to see him in a similar situation and respond with the sort of authority that Keane, Viera and Gerrard have all shown in their careers. He's physically a different style of player to all of them but the mental strength and toughness is what I'm not sure about.

Remember Vieira & Gerrard FA Cup 2001? We might have won but Gerrard got a lesson.
