Klopp and City boss Pep Guardiola want to rejuvenate their back lines this summer, having identified left-footer Colwill as a top target. Both sides are prepared to go head-to-head for the 20-year-old, who the Evening Standard labelled a “future England star.”
Colwill has impressed at Brighton this term and has been tipped for an England call-up ahead of Euro 2024.
He could also be a transformative presence for Trent Alexander-Arnold at Liverpool. While primarily a centre-back, Colwill has been known to operate at left-back too.
Given the Chelsea youngster is more defensively-minded than the Reds’ first choice Andrew Robertson, should Klopp play Colwill at left-back he could tuck in and allow Alexander-Arnold to play an ‘inverted full-back role’.
Indeed this would ease the defensive strain on Alexander-Arnold, and allow the 24-year-old to thrive in the opposition half of the pitch.
Of course, while this is a potential option for the future, Colwill is primarily a centre-back, and that is likely where he would operate under Klopp.
The Blues star has only two years on his Chelsea contract and Todd Boehly has made it clear that he does not want players running down their deals. The American has insisted he is prepared to sell players to ensure that this does not happen.

This kid looks the real deal. Let’s hope Chelsea’s stupid spending spree will result in them having to sell valuable assets like him and we are able to profit.
Who else are we being linked with?
