Casper Schmeichel

My cousin is a Leicester fan and thinks he is PL class for what its worth, we'll see next year i guess.

Doubt he would want to sit on the bench at his age and especially with his first season in the PL 5/6 months away.

Decent shot stopper and fairly brave, but not much else.

In saying that, I think Peter Schmeichel bloomed relativity late in his career (around 26/27 years old) so there might be hope for him to improve. He's also better than Jones....but that isn't much of a complement

Actually has he played in the PL before? the odd apperance maybe? fuck knows.

Anyway he will be a certain number 1 next year for Leicester.

Wasn't he there number one for a while until he started making some howlers?

Yeah, he had a small run of games where he looked impressive initially and then got gradually worse.

Slightly off-topic, but does anyone remember a really old Match of the Day episode (like 20 years back) when they showed a clip of 3 Man Utd players' kids having a kickabout? Alex Bruce, Tom Ince, and Casper Schmeichel.

I realised just the other day that all 3 of them have made it as professional footballers. Kinda weird.

Why would a keeper in his prime settle for place on the bench? I'm content with Jones.

Ochoa and Brkic are out of contract this summer. Both miles better than Jones.
Still, not the most important area to improve

We'd be getting rid of a nice bloke, and a die-hard LFC fan, who isn't sadly a top class keeper (unless there's a cup game, when, of course, he's brilliant), for an arsehole who is a die-hard manc fan who isn't even anywhere near a top class keeper.

Lo, yes.

Don't remember the other 2 but remember Schmeichel junior with the gloves on and taking a ball in the face, Wasn't it before an FA cup final?

Keep Mignolet, Keep Jones. Spend the money on other positions. Oh, Schmeichel is an average keeper.

He's definitely good enough for the EPL but is prone to the odd error and flaps at crosses a bit. He's an excellent shot-stopper and very good at one-on-ones but he's not better than Mignolet and he'd be daft to come here as a No.2.

When Reina was at his best I always wanted us to get rid of all the shite young keepers we had and sign an old head (Jaasskalinen and Speroni were the 2 I suggested) as cover. Now that we have Ming who's good but there are doubts about him, we need a very good young keeper to keep Ming on his toes. Darlow of Forest fits the bill and if they don't get promoted we should offer them £4m-£5m.

We've been linked to Navas at Levante, along with a few other clubs, who is having a top season.

I don't see how any keeper who basically stops playing to sit on the bench every week is going to keep Mignolet on his toes. Except in the obvious physical sense. Anyway. I've watched Schmeichel a few times and never been impressed. He might concentrate in big games but he certainly doesn't in run of the mill league games.

If I'm right about Darlow he could become a better keeper than Ming and could become England's No.1. At present Ming's position is safe even if he has a few dodgy games (which he had had) because Jones just isn't good enough. If we had a very good young keeper then Ming becomes droppable if he has another sequence of poor games. Darlow would probably get a couple of chances to prove himself within the first 6 months of signing.

I like Ming but my gut feeling is we need someone more authorative and more commanding of the penalty area.

I like Jones, nice lad, decent keeper. Still hold a soft spot for the tragic loss of his son. Quite happy with him as our #2, I don't ever remember him letting us down (though it is quite difficult to ever remember him playing for us) !

I remember realizing during one of our Europa matches last season that he was a better shot stopper than Reina.

He gets a lot of stick here and a lot of it seems pretty unfair IMO, though having said that, he's also warranted it at times, e.g. dropping a clanger against Oldham in the FA Cup last season, and I think an error or two in a derby game as well. Because he doesn't play a lot, things like that stick out. He's generally done okay since coming here though. As far as deputies go, I think he's been one of the better ones we've had in the recent seasons. I thought he did well against Arsenal in the FA Cup game a few weeks ago too.

Speaking of keepers, surely it's about time we had someone from the U-21s who is good enough to be the 2nd choice keeper at the club? Bouzanis and Gulacsi were supposed to be the last good pair, and they didn't amount to anything with us, though Gulacsi did go on to start in 10 Europa League games for Red Bull Salzburg. Mihaylov never landed in England at all after we bought him.

Interestingly, Tyrell Belford, whom we released last season, has started the last 3 League One games for Swindon after their No. 1 keeper Foderingham got injured. Belford had been on the bench for a large part of the season, which isn't too bad, given he's just 20.

Does Ward even have a chance to make it, or will he join the long line of ex-U21 keepers in the wilderness? Will be interesting to see if Fulton and Crump does any better. Crump's been playing for the U-18s in Fulton's absence and he looks pretty good to me.

Ward's rated quite highly by the staff but I can't say he's looked that promising whenever I've seen him. I guess that's why we should be relieved they're the ones making the decisions! I quite like Fulton - he shouts and commands his area much more than many keepers of his age do. I can't see Crump as a number 1 anywhere except the lower leagues.
