It's easy to be critical of Carragher, but he could benefit the squad from the bench for at least a few more years. He helps for the homegrown rule, he can play three positions on an emergency basis, and he'll be determined even if he comes on in the 85th. If there are any "squad" players of the future to overpay for, I would overpay for him.

if we were going to pay a defender 90k a year in the twilight of their career it should have been sami because a defender like sami is needed more than a defender like carra.

On the pitch perhaps in some games but not in and around the club and team. Carragher is exactly the type of person we need going forward under the new owners.
He's a living legend and one of the key persons in the squad as well as one of the cornerstones of the club.
We've been truely bad of late but for me Carra is one of very few who can hold his head somewhat high. And he's even been played out of position.
