Carragher and Didi

Where does the hysteria come from?

Noone has said any other thing than actually praising Carra for making a great career. What I held against him was his lame tabloid slating of a young guy in a difficult position which himself have been in too. Carra definately did not put the world on fire from that Central Mid he started as, but was backed by managers, fans and the club when he moved to right fullback. And to be fair he was quite average there as well. But yeah he could pass. I have no count of how many times he passed the ball to Henchoz and other CD's. So passing wasn't the problem. Passing forward though is another story....

But it is quite funny that a bunch of fannies go hysterical as someone criticize Carra for criticizing someone else!!

No one is defending Carragher's comments. I would have preferred if he said nothing about our new keeper.

I think the 'hysteria' is directed at those who are having pathetic digs at Jamie Carragher of all people. As in the back handed compliments to downplay his ability. You even did so above.

Anyway, we've done this too many times before.

It is not a dig at Carra as a player. He had obvious limitations as a player, but built a good career anyway. Is that a dig? Despite his limitations he is a Liverpool Legend. Is that a dig? In my eyes he was not one of the best defenders in Europe in the period 02-07, but Ill let others have their view. Is that a dig? He was still Our man and was backed by the Club and fans to develop into a legend.

My dig at Carra was at Carra the pundit. He has been in the situation Karius is in himself. I do not know if Carra has more goals the right way than the wrong way for Liverpool, but he has been bakced by Liverpool fans and People never the less, as he is Our Carra. And I don't fance that Our men write of a Young player, New to the League, the way Carra did. it is a tabloid view on it, but it mean something when it comes from a Red legend. If it was Gary Rat then no problem, he has proven that he cant walk the talk. But I don't like it when it comes from Red men. Be it Lawro or Carra or Rushie for that matter.

Yes the missing link in that team was another ageing legend.

I'd be a bit tempted to say he would have done better in the games that Kolo or Sakho started. 15 and 17 games. But its very difficult to say as he was on the decline no doubt.

Our inability to defend would probably still be there so its a moot point anyway.

What a load of bollocks posted in this thread. "He made a good career anyway", "through grit and determination" - how many fucking times are you going to post the word "limitations" in one post Insig? Backhanded compliments all round and the usual English player hate-bullshit from Modo.

This is the lad who went to the Nou Camp and put in an absolutely heroic display, a lad who played for us for 17 years, made 737 appearances. Winning 2 FA Cups, 3 League Cups, the Champions League & the UEFA Cup.

Not some try hard fucking plodder like Tony Hibbert.

Bare With me. I have no other good word to Express that. I know it is a poor Choice of wording though. However, I tried to use multiple example to illustrate what I meant. But I see that the main point dissapear because people get hung up in the details.

Ill give it one last try and will not use the l-word:

Carragher were in a club and environment were he could build a great career. He receieved the full backing of fans and club through a few seasons were he by no way put the world on fire. But he was our man so we backed him anyway. So for him to come out and "kill off" a youngster that need our backing give me a bad taste. I am not sure Carra would have been given that great career elsewhere, and what Klopp need now is not "our" guys to come out and tell him that his first Choice is not good enough for Liverpool. I dont say he should praise Karius, I say he should just plain and simple shut it. Karius is an obvious goalie talent. Klopp has seen something there he wants to work with. Slamming off Karius the way he did (As I recall he didn't talk about releasing the goalie potential at all) is pretty much slamming off Klopp. Which has enough on his hands already if not all journous are going to ask him what he think of Liverpool legends questioning our keeper. So if Carra is to show some balls, why doesnt he slam Klopp instead: "Klopp doesn't know what he is doing!" It is easy to target Karius, but for Carra to do it in a tabloid style is dissapointing. Other journous can say what they want, but when it comes from a Liverpool legend it means more.

Carra is doing what he's paid to do, which is give his opinion.

We'll agree with some of his opinions and disagree with others. It's not really a big deal.

If Karius is affected by what people in the media say, well he's not the right man then, anyway.

And to be fair, the names that were put up in comparison to Carra was not exactly Tony Hibbert was it? Scrawled through and saw Maldini, Roberto Carlos, Cafu and Lizarasu mentioned. I mean, people read the forum as Zatan reads the bible.

I assume that it shows Carra enough respect to draw that kind of comparison, rather than bring on the Tony Hibbert comparison. Where does that come from? Noone has even mentioned low case journeymen career here? Get a grip. You might disagree with people, but trying to twist and bend their Message is not good.

Karius is not necessary affected by media. But I give Carra credit for being more than one of the media.

Nice summary. Especially the Words in the end!!

Carragher is now paid to have an opinion about everything that happens in the Premier league. Its quite obvious that he'll also comment on our goalkeeping situation.
That said, he does look at bit silly with the "shut up and do your job" comment after the Mail ran that story behind the Karius interview.
But he's also got a point. I'd rather our players just focused on their job instead of talking to the media about everything. Not necessarily this scheduled interview but I just hate it when our players start talking about how good we are and that we dont fear no one.
That usually results in us going to shite for the next few matches.... Just play football and focus on that.
