I specifically said that replacing him shouldn't be our top priority. But I do believe that it should be on the list.
We desperately need a world class winger and a left fullback. We have it seems an unlimited amount of CB's in the squad as it is. What worries me is the quality.
If it's between improving on Agger or Carra, I'll always pick the latter.
Why single out Carra you might ask?
Well first of all he's 33 years old and we should be looking for someone to partner Agger in the long run.
He's not as towering in defence like Hyypia was, he doesn't contribute in attack. He gives away possession frequently by hoofing it. I can go on and on.
What's changed? Nothing. He's always been that type of player and his positive traits outweigh the negative ones. We also had Sami Hyypia who had a great partnership with Carra, making his negative traits seem even less apparent.
However Sami isn't here any more and what I'm trying to say is that we should now look for a defender that can form that kind of partnership with Agger. Hence Cahill or Hummels.
I'm not saying that we should look to release Carra. I want three top class defenders that can rotate throughout the season.
Why can't we for once have a central defender like David Luiz (I'm not saying that Cahill is as good as Luiz). Someone who can dribble is good in the air, is quick, agile etc.

He only has a year left in his contract. We can probably get him for £10 Million in the summer.

Yeah everyone seems to be jumping on modo for saying somethin that makes sense. Any CB we buy should be seen as carraghers replacement as he's not getting younger. Not sure if i think cahill is better than carra, but he seems like a good CD, one i'd welcome.
In the end it does make sense but it was initially posted so cuntishly he deserves the flak he's getting.

I agree, I think he may have gone a little OTT, but the basis is correct. Although Carra may not be the most pressing issue, if the right player came up any time soon we should jump in and not let an opportunity pass by

Carra is not irreplaceable and yes, we must look at this seriously.

But he is STILL our best CB and far more importantly the most reliable..getting in a top CB is definitely something to be done, but I don't see how it even compares to how poor we are in defensive midfield, left-back and on the flanks.

I agree with most of what modo says but come the summer when we are spending our money to improve the team, CB is a position that should be down the pecking order.

You've gone on a crusade suggesting that Carragher needs to be replaced, something no one disagrees with incidentally.
Most are just of the view that it's not the highest priority, something you've said yourself.
I asked the question because you've held up Agger as our best defender currently, something your Manc brother agrees with it.
Now you disagree with him, so you must think someone's better than Agger.

a lot of people seem to be under the assumption we'll have carte blanche this summer. betcha it will be a normal summer (before G&H took over) i.e. 20m net with a lot of that being generated by sales.
