Start Origi and Ings up front.
Let Firmino play in his preferred position and see what he can do.
Leave Toure out.
Give Tex some game time.
Give Sturridge some minutes in second half.

We will soon see Mig given a chance as a defensive midfielder. Rodgers will give Milner a chance in goal because he can play everywhere.

It's very early in the season, so there's no reason to rest players, and Rodgers surely realises that he HAS to win games now, so it's not a time to mess about. Benteke has a hammy that's about to snap so he does need a break, but otherwise I'd play the first half at least with a full strength side.

It's Carlisle .. not Real Madrid, and that defence might not be top PL standard but it should still far too strong for Carlisle to be able to breach.

Because that's where he's already performed, well, for us previously and it gets him in the team which otherwise he wouldn't.

Can has been very poor this season but frustratingly there does seem like a world class player in there somewhere. I think we need to keep playing him in a DM position until he learns/adapts to the position. He needs to be shown videos of Didi Hamann and told "do that".

What he needs to do is get his head up and off-load before he's dispossessed (or just as often his pass goes astray).

Disagree with playing him at DM. It isn't his true position, which is further forward, and I don't know how we expect to get the best out of him if we persist in not playing him where he's best suited.

Germany played him at right back in their last 2 games. Truth be told he's such a raw talent that I doubt anyone really knows where his best position is or will be. We are not short of attacking midfielders (Lallana, Ibe, Coutinho, Firmino) but we have no out-and-out DM'ers (I refuse to include Lucas as he's not good enough) so by default we need Can to make that step up. I'd much rather persevere with Can and hope that he can become a top DM'er rather than bring Lucas in because we know he's not up to the job.

It's true that Germany played him there, but he didn't do well. I'm not Lucas' greatest fan by any means, but at his best he's better than Can at DM. Other decent attacking midfielders who happened to be a bit heftier than some of their colleagues have ultimately fallen short of their potential because they were shoehorned into a deeper role - we tried it with Molby for a while (fortunately we then came to our senses), we ruined a promising MF in Biscan that way, even Obi Mikel at Chelsea was originally an attacking mid whom the Mancs also wanted and I don't want that happening to Can.

Fundamentally DM is a gap in the squad which we need to address in January. Regrettably I don't think Rodgers will do so, which is another reason why I've reluctantly concluded his time is up.
