Will he - should he - resign?

Last minute appointment for us?

All things seem possible after this display.

Yes, he should, and the one silver lining here is that surely the next manager that comes in, even though he catch the stupid that seems to infect the job, will not be able to pick this same fundamentally flawed set of players that we've seen for the last decade or so. At some point Heskey has to retire, for instance.

Gerrard on the fucking left.

England have more physical players. They don't seem capable of much.
Germany look good on the ball, England look clueless.
I think it's the league.

England aren't fantastic individually, but they are worse as a team, and worse this world cup as a team than the last couple. Capello put out a broken team that required too much thought to work. The Germans were in a sensible natural formation.

England were really really poor through the middle. JT, Upson, Barry, Lampard ...none of them have pace. Lampard is twice as fast as the rest of them put together, which is saying something. What was really surprising this world cup was that, they didn't look like they had any energy in them. Germany's third goal was because players like Lampard and Gerrard were too lazy to track back. Words do not do justice to how poor Gareth Barry was. He was the defensive midfielder for fuck sake, and he did not do anything of note to stop the supply of through balls. I think he may actually be worse than Lucas Leiva.

Lastly, Frank Lampard is the worst free kick taker ever....but he is Englands only choice.

No, he isn't. Stevie G and Rooney would both be better choices.

Fact is that Lampard, when he's not scoring, contributes little else to England. Even when he is scoring, IMO that doesn't compensate for the criminal waste of playing Stevie anywhere BUT his best position to accommodate him. I like Lampard as a club player and have more respect for him as an individual than I do for most other top footballers, but he should never have been allowed to stunt Stevie's England career for this long.

'Don Fabio'. They built him up in the media, I wonder how they'll bring this one down? They'll probably photoshop him as Super Mario or something.

It's within everyone's interests that Liverpool wait until the England managerial position is resolved.

If Hodgson wants the England job, then so be it.

Let's go after Capello, which would be a decent coup for Liverpool at the moment.

it'd be good if capello resigned, even better if he was sacked. i hope the FA do the right thing for once.

Capello should resign, it's alright playing well & winning games in qualifying but when it comes to the all important stage ie world cup and play shite, it's game over & let the the next guy take the reigns.

Give beckham a go!

I don't want Capello anywhere near Anfield after watching four abysmal world cup games. If you thought Rafa was one-dimensional in his formation and substitutions then Capello will make you think again.

Just awful

For the Capello advocates? What makes you think that he will be a success in a much more demanding Premiership when he couldn't cut it with England's best.

I've seen nothing that makes me want him at Anfield. The one and only thing he did get right with England team is their discipline. They were woeful, uninspired in the WC2010 and just got exactly what they deserved.

have some dignity crapello and fuck off.
fa were fucking idiots to offer him a contract extention before him playing ONE competitive game.

the manager isn't the problem in England, it's the way the game is organised at youth level that's the problem.

Until that changes you'll still be picking from a much smaller pool of players than necessary.

when you look at the starting lineup and see h*sk*y, then I'm sorry the manager 'IS' the problem.

England are the most predictable of teams at the World Cup, their performance has varied only minimally in the last 40 years.

He has a top record in club football and has won both Serie A and La Liga. A manager with his kind of record doesn't turn into a bad one in a couple of weeks. I'd take him in preference to Roy Hodgson all day long.

until a manager picks a balanced side with players in their correct positions, with players making the team based on form rather than reputation then I will always play the blame at the manager's door*

* and before anyone says 'why did you support rafa till the end, we're talking about england not liverpool 😉

Nobody who isn't retarded would claim otherwise.

The 2 managers that nearly everyone on here wanted us to replace Rafa with, were Jose and Capello. Now 4 games later he's suddenly shite?

You have to question is skills, Crouch didnt get a sniff, yet is a proven scorer for england. i know, i'll bring on a player that cant even play for his club, and leave out the player that keeps him out.

Then i'll call dawson up, and not give him a chance, even though he was miles better than Upson last season, who was by far the worst player in the squad.

Then we'll play at a tempo that even a gran could keep up with.

Leave giant gaps between the back 4 and the midfield, not spot it at all and allow to opposition to run riot.

Continue to play Terry, who clearly couldnt be fucked with it, and actually probably thought he'd get revenge on him by just turning up and not bothering.

You dont go from looking like a sharp squad with potential in qualification, to nobody with no idea, without the managers input. He changed his style to a more defensive one for the competition, and then didnt know how to fix it. Italian tactics, without the ability.

Terry was excellent against Slovenia or Slovakia or whoever it was. To give huim his due.

Upson was dogshit and a disastrous choice. Dawson was indeed a far better bet. But I said that all along.

Capello got everything wrong during this WC: wrong team selections, wrong formations, wrong subs, the stand offish man management skills, too many players out of position. All sounds a bit too familiar.

I know how great his record is before England and the logical mind says he'd be a great choice for us. But really, am I the only one who gets that sinking feeling thinking of Capello as our next manager?

Not that we could afford him anyway.

There isn't a 'right' formation or team selection for these players.

They just cannot play together and we've got fuck all alternatives.

We should have been able top group containing USA, Ghana and Slovenia though.

I disagree Squiggs. I'm so depressed today, mainly cos I know we didn't even give it close to our best. The manager should be playing a formation that's going to bring out the best in our best players. And he didn't.
