[article=http://turkish-football.com/news_read.php?id=5448]Liverpool have been scouting Fenerbahçe's Caner Erkin as they continue their search to strengthen at left-back.

The Reds first choice left-back Jose Enrique underwent knee surgery recently and will be out until February.

Aly Cissokho is currently Liverpool's only senior left-back however, the on-loan fullback has come under fire for poor performances.

Erkin is a versatile left-back who can also play on the left-wing in attacking roles. The Turkish international has been one of the most in-form players in the Turkish Super League this season racking up nine assists and a goal in 12 appearances.

The Turkish international joined CSKA Moscow for €4 million aged 19 and later went onto play for Galatasaray on loan after which he joined Fenerbahçe on a permanent move in 2010.

The 25-year-old currently earns €440,000 per-season and has yet to extend his contract which is set to expire at the end of the season.

Liverpool would be able to enter direct talks with Erkin in January if the Yellow Canaries fail to renew his contract.

Erkin's agent Batur Altıparmak recently told Turkish radio station Radyospor that they would hold talks with Fenerbahçe first before considering their options.

"Caner Erkin's contract finishes at the end of the season however, he is still contracted to Fenerbahçe so the right thing to do would be to first enter talks with the club and then decide what to do," Altıparmak said.

The Reds have strengthened ties with Turkey recently, helping organise Turkish reality series Soccer Prince as well as partnerships with Turkish Tourism, Misli.com and Ramsey.

Erkin would become the fourth player of Turkish origin to have joined Liverpool were he to join the Premiership outfit. Yusuf Mersin and Samed Yeşil currently play for Liverpool youth sides and Nuri Şahin enjoyed a brief loan spell at the club last season.[/article]
