Bye bye Sadio

Replacing him might be trickier than we think. There aren't many players about who are as direct and unpredictable, while also incredibly hard working hard and able to easily adapt to new positions - which he has done twice
Whilst I think you’re right - he’s proved a brilliant and highly versatile attacker - the situation is now that he’s only really at a top level in the no.9 role now (and that’s debatable).

In that sense, as things stand (and with Diaz promising so much from the left) losing Mane and signing a highly promising and effective no.9 is not as tricky as getting the Diaz signing right.

Nkunku imo is the best possible replacement for Sadio, if he's going, but truth is, you can't replicate his passion, desire, consistency, workrate and quality very easily.

Even Diaz, for all his plaudits looks nowhere near the finisher/killer Sadio has looked (both feet) and his flair to output ratio is more like like 80:20, whereas Mane's is/was 35:65.

[article]The official Bundesliga Player of the Season Christopher Nkunku showed one of the best all-round attacking performances the German top-flight has seen in quite a while.

The Frenchman has scored 20 goals himself while setting up another 13, which made him the first player since Miroslav Klose in 2005-06 (25 goals, 11 assists) to score 20 or more goals and reach double figures for assists in a single season in the competition.

Nkunku’s 33 goal involvements in the Bundesliga in 2021-22 set a record among French players in the league since in recorded data history (since 2004-05), while it was also more goal involvements than Nkunku had managed to collect in the previous two seasons combined (30).

Of the 15 players to have attempted 60 or more non-penalty shots in the Bundesliga this season, only Patrik Schick (26.1%) converted at a higher rate than Nkunku (23.5%), showing his clinical touch in front of goal.[/article]

If we’d have said at the start of 2021-22 that Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembéle would make our team of the season in May, you’d be forgiven for being very surprised. On the verge of leaving the club in the winter transfer window, the Frenchman was subsequently revitalised after the arrival of Xavi as coach, giving Barcelona the extra edge in attack that they were missing in the first part of the season.

From Xavi’s first league game in charge on November 20, Dembéle appeared in 21 of Barcelona’s 26 matches. Across that period, he assisted a league-high 13 goals and had the highest expected assists total in La Liga (9.3). Those 13 assists were also a personal record for Dembéle in a league season, eclipsing the 12 assists he managed in 2016-17 at Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga.

I’m warming to the idea of Dembele on a free if his wage demands are realistic.

Man United, Juve, PSG, or even Chelsea . Undoubted talent, but the kid is filled with arrogance and dubious fitness record.
There is lots of talent out there.
Djed Spence, Ivan Toney and Brennan Johnson are Home grown players who IMHO would add value to the squad
The French league is filled with talent with realistic price tags
I had a look at Salzberg's squad, the American will sell merch but is no better than a squad option. Mohammed Camara looks like a beast and the one that intrigues me most is the 18 year old Benjamin Sesko

Yeah, I’m all for unearthing sone talented youngsters that could develop into a top player - but that’s not what we need - we have a bunch of them already and the lines of Nico, Jones, Harvey and Carvalho that could play fairly sizeable roles.

I get that Dembele is a risk - but :
- no transfer fee
- finished the season strongly with Barca
- is very talented
- can play on the right

I trust that Klopp will factor in all the negative issues and if they make a move for him, then it’s not likely to be a Balotelli panic buy situation.

I think we all know, we’re likely to buy no-one if we can’t get the right deal on the right player - that’s they way we do things.

Yeah but he's a lazy bastard and only plays when he feels like it.

I'm surprised there hasn't been something more concrete about where he's going to, he was talking as if it was pretty much done. I reckon the more days it goes on, the more likely it is that he stays.

Mo, only a season in advance of him leaving to bed the new player in.

maybe, i guess it will depend on who is available out there

I looked at some videos now, and it has to be said, Dembele looked absolute boss in that Barca 2022 video. So I get why klopp wants him.

Also looked at Joao Felix, nah, and frenkie de jong, could be too slow, but ok. Jonathan David looks good, only thing that makes me a bit weary is the lack of great pace. He looks quite strong, and has superb composure in is finishing, also looks to have good vision and awareness.

Na, I'm ready for the new look line up.
Bring on a new striker

When I read about the impact Xavi's appointment had on Dembele, I was thinking "surely Klopp can get as much out of him, if not more?". He's heavily linked to Chelsea though.

With a player as flaky as this guy, that might not necessarily follow. Remains to be seen if even Xavi will get that much of a tune out of him again next season.

It was amazing having a wealth of attacking options, for a whole 4 months.

It will be a sad day when Mané leaves, he's one of the players that epitomizes the Klopp era. He's been magnificent for us. But he's 30, has 12 months left on his contract and crucially he's lost a yard of pace. I'm guessing the club knew this and brought forward the Diaz signing specifically so we didn't get held to ransom after Sadio left.

Crucially he also scored 23 goals last season, and many big goals at that. Make no mistake about it, Mane won't be easily replaced.

So what the fuck was Mane's "the best news" but it could wait until after the final about? Was he trolling us?

You realise this is all because he's never had a good song.
We finally got him a good one a month ago and now he's off. Typical

What happened to that count Duku fella we were linked with when at Anderlecht? Didn't he move to France?

Looks like PSG is interested in Mane.
This is ideal - because if Bayern want him, it will force them to bid 50 million or compete with PSG financially (LOL) next year on a free.

EDIT - don't want to lose mane, but no way around it it seems ... hence 'ideal' is after we lose him.

We'll have to play hard ball.. cos why the heck would Mane wana go PSG?
Pointless club, he'll push for Bayern who'll hold out for the lower offer
