Buvac the Brain - gone

It's not as bad as first feared, what you can read out of that article is that he's unable to give his full attention to the club right now due to these personal reasons. Whether these personal reasons are related to a falling out, or due to family or health reasons remains to be seen, but due to the importance of this stage of the season, and the fact he and Klopp seemed fine on Saturday, the former is more likely. I hope he returns to his post at the beginning of next season.

Yep, massive leap between a fall out and having to take some time out.

Could be anything, sick family member, stress etc. Hopefully he's good and back asap.

Castles could easily have waited to check his facts, if he'd actually had any, but he chose to gamble on gossip. Of course that happens a lot, and isn't wrong in itself, but in this instance Castles seems to have had nothing solid at all on which to base his speculation. And he's put it out on a Sunday night, after everyone's gone to press. The amount of chaos that's caused is huge. Loads of dazed LFC hacks will have been hauled out of their beds to start Monday early and deal with the fall-out, the club will have been bombarded with queries overnight from around the world, and just when everyone should be focusing on the semi-final there will be endless media calls and meetings throughout the day. I'd ban the devious manc twat.

Seems that a lot of people are implying that this short term 'leave' is just a way of saving the bad news for later and damage control before our biggest game in years. Not gonna keep my hopes up that he'll be returning after the end of the season.

We've gone from 25% chance of screwing this up to 45% now lads

Time will tell I suppose.

If Buvac has quit after a bust up there would be a gardening leave clause in his contract in any event. So he would be still employed by the club until that runs down.

If he comes back Castles was talking shite, if he doesn't the club have done a nice tidy PR response.

Either way we've just lost a coach at a crucial time.

He's hardly alone as a journalist there.

No he isn't (as I very clearly acknowledged above in the sentence after the one you quote - very Duncan Castles, that), but you have to weigh up your options very carefully before committing to something like that. And you need to feel you have the core of the story right, rather than just the periphery of it. He seems to have had the opposite. And his timing is really suspicious - timed for his story to be reproduced online by pimply twenty-one year olds rather than checked out by his peers before going to hard print. That says more about his personal ambitions than any news-based motive.

Very naive to blame the journalist on this one. castles gets so much wrong and so often, its unfortunate but he was right this time.

In the key details he did not get it 'right,' so don't be so patronising. 'Amber Rudd sacked because of the time of the month' - that's not 'right' even if a really lazy reading will think it sort of is. Just making vague sounds like facts doesn't make them facts.

That would be my guess.

I'd be massively surprised if he ever comes back.

With that in mind I kinda hope Castles is correct in saying that he's been out of loop for some time now, because that goes back to my earlier point that it doesn't seem to have had an adverse effect on the team in the short term at least.

Of course there may be huge long term repercussions in terms of settling players in & what role he played in that, & long term season long tactics, plus how he balances out Klopp's personality traits etc, none of which we will know for quite some time.

What's more worrying is that we have previous with this, both with Rafa and Houllier. Both their assistants left, which coincided with a difficult run.

Regardless of personal reasons or leaving the club, the timing is shite.

It will obviously effect us somehow, but lets hope we can get over the line.

The Honigstein comments are interesting though. But I’d find it weird if they decided after 17 years to stop working together and announce it with only 4 games left of the season, and with so important games as that.
The personal reasons explanation makes more sense in that regard.

Yep. Didn't Ferguson struggle for a while after his long term assistant fucked off as well? I seem to remember a couple of seasons of turmoil before he go to grips with it again.

Brian Kidd? I can't remember how they reacted as a team, I remember alot of people writing them off afterwards, but they still went on and won stuff. Houllier and Rafa just fell by the way side. It's probably not really a reflection of their qualities as I don't think either assistant went on to bigger and better things, it's more the disruption is causes. When you've worked together with someone for that long successfully, there's obviously a foundation there that's broken when one party leaves. Whoever Klopp brings in would have to have the same ethos and understanding of our system and how Klopp works, while giving the same input and influence as what Buvac gave. That's a massive ask.

If he's been the brain for Klopp but also out of the loop for some time, I would understand this as him not being involved at all. I imagine the tactical preparations would have been be exhaustive and if Buvac wasn't up for the occasion we're in now, then maybe the better that he's leaving.

In terms of settling players, I don't think he's that close to them since I thought Klopp, Buvac and Krawietz all had limited English anyway.
