Burnley v Liverpool Match Thread

If this heralds a turnabout on form, nobody will remember how truly poor Liverpool was, and how Burnley deserved more than it got. 3 points it is, baby.

For all Burnley's good play, they still only had 1 shot on target all game, only had 1 corner all game too.

Didn't feel like we had 65% possession.

11 Corners and as usual, 0 decent ones...

Good win even though we didn't look comfortable. Hopefully Klopp can use it as a template for the players that we can beat these bottom half teams. If only we could keep clean sheets then we could play with a lot more confidence.

I'm not sure that there was much in evidence in that game which one could be confident about applying as a 'template'

You mean Good, a win? Because it wasn't a good win.

Lucas done well when he came on.
Not because he is a particularly great player but it was exactly what we needed in midfield at the time.
Personally when needed I would prefer to move Milner to midfield in that position and put Moreno at left back.
Alternatively Clyne at left back and TAA at right back might work

Third and fourth paragraph OK [emoji106]

I'm not sure there are many alternative options available to Klopp.

Injuries aside there are a fair few players that he was likely banking on this season that have simply let him down.

TAA might be worth a go but other than that, who else is there?

Hold on, your recipe for solidifying the defense is bringing on Moreno and moving Milner to DM?

I think our biggest problem has been the midfields soft underbelly and inability to stop teams coming through them more than the defence - that's why we miss an average player like Hendo that puts a real shift in

Thoughts from today:
  • Mign's punching on two of those deep FKs were the best I've seen him handle those. No, he's still not good enough but nice to see him progress!
  • Klavan's best game in a while. MoTM for me - his block on whoever was absolutely key. We had just gone ahead and it was fucking huge.
  • Matip - solid game too. Rounding into form.
  • Gini - only scores at home ... Hope he's ready to break his duck at the Etihad.
  • Can - such a frustrating player. Thought he competed really well in the air, but then so many stupid fouls. Fantastic shot too for the goal.
  • Coutinho - I'm glad Klopp took him off. No, he wasn't that bad but he needs to be doing more. Too many game where he's just not on enough.
  • Origi - battled hard, looks like he's over is 2-3 month slump. Would be nice to have him round into the form we saw him in before he got injured last year.
  • Woodburn - there's something about the lad eh? Just looks like he has 'it'.
  • Lucas - great cameo.

I don't remember Origi winning one aerial duel in the first half yet Mignolet just kept lumping it up to him. The crowd were getting frustrated with poor Simon but he had little choice as Burnley just kept blocking his options whenever he had a goal kick.

The worry for me was we struggled to break down Burnley who unlike many of the shit teams didn't park the bus and did actually try to attack.

So despite it not being convincing today we are five and six points ahead of Arsenal and United respectively. The pressure is now on them to deliver on those games in hand - we've got Hendo Firmino Lovren and yes even Sturridge to come back. If we can get something out of the next two games be consistent and have some luck with fitness - a top four could still be on

Not a good game at all, but winning was all that mattered.

City away next weekend. Hopefully Hendo and Firmino are fit.

I know it was only "Burnley" and we played mostly shite but Burnley drew with Chelsea and Man U and lost to the same 2-1 score line to Man City, Spurs and Arsenal.
They are a limited but well drilled side who can cause the "big" teams problems when they don't play their A game
