Building upon success

Jesus Christ, have people always been this fucking finished? Or is it a recent thing with the internet and all that?

Yes, of course yesterday was a bit shit. Yes, of course you should always strengthen from a position of power and while you're on top. I don't think anyone at the club doubts any of that.

What IS embarrassing, however, is people coming on here labelling this group of players as twats and unprofessional, and questioning their mentality after everything they've achieved and the seemingly impossible odds they've overcome.

You're the real laughing stock here. Take a look at yourselves.

Fuck you -
What have you done to Halmeister?!?!
Tell me now, or I will find you and I will take pleasure in gutting you boy.

Did you see the game at Anfield? It should have been about 5-0. Athletico got battered.

So let's keep a tally: we lost against Athletico but should have won 5-0, and lost 4-0 to City but we should have, what, drawn or won? Any more improvements on reality? No doubt bluefume have made similar 'corrections' and ought to have been champions.

These matches since the restart have an air of pre-season about them. That was City's fifth game and only our third. So it wasn't that surprising they were a bit sharper.

It's not nice to lose by that margin, but I wouldn't read anything too much into one match about our prospects for next season.

Imagine sitting there fuming, lashing things against the wall and typing furiously into your keyboard after your team has just won its first league title in 30 years and suffered only it's third loss in two years.

And people have a go at Guardiola for not enjoying football and his success. Pot, kettle, black.

To be fair, I don't think anyone is really doing that. And I don't think anyone is getting carried away over one defeat. But neither should we just shrug it off. I would be surprised if Klopp is just ignoring it.

I can point you in the direction of one particular poster who called this team "mentality midgets", "twats" and "unprofessional".

There's no way the players or Klopp is ignoring it. There's no evidence to suggest they would ever do that. Yet that hasn't stopped people from being hysterical.

Completely different. I made the point for one game. We deserved to lose last night. He claimed we got found out against Athletico. We didn't we got unlucky, it happens. We got outplayed last night. There's the difference.

See how we respond in the next 6 matches. Not impossible to go all the way unbeaten and possibly win all of them too, so let's see. I am not too pleased with yesterday's performance, and pretty sure it's down to lack of focus. But knowing Klopp, he would have smacked the hangover out of them right about now. So let's see how our boys respond next match.

As for building on success, I don't think the owners are shortchanging us fans. They've always maintained that after 5 years of owning the club they expect the club to become self sustainable. Pretty sure that's also the biggest pull they have towards Klopp, being a very frugal and pragmatic overachiever, Klopp is an idealist. So he won't go banging on the door asking for funds our owners not willing to put out, and then spit the dummy ala Mourinho or Rafa. And they obviously didn't promised him a spending spree of City proportion either, because if they did he wouldn't have joined us (that's what United promised him), and if they did, he wouldn't have stood by and quiet in 3 out of the 4 summers he was with us. He would have walked.

So I am enjoying what Klopp is delivering so far, and till then, while I may get disappointed and will be critical over the players performance in each match, but I won't be dwelling on it as a whole. Won't be digging into them the next day, won't call them out because I know Klopp will do it for us anyway. Till then, I am a happy man - so don't piss the manager off!

So what's your point? We'll just about sneak the same number of dull games next season against teams we should have been beating two or three more, they'll blow as many, and we'll sail on assuredly to another title? Presumably your aim was to suggest all is pretty much fine and the course forward looks sound? If not, what really was the point?

His press conference today was just right.

My point was he said the Athletico game proved we were found out. It didn't. It was completely different game to the Man City game. His post was completely at odds with the title.

Also "we'll sneak a number of dull games against teams we should be beating by 2 or 3". Is there actually any pleasing you?

Behave..

They will just stregthen as always..

That Foden is a class act..

De Bruyne outstanding..

Bernardo Silva too..

They just need a Centre half, and someone to replace the outgoing Sane.. Job done..

They will add more obviously maybe in midfield.. Though Rodri is seen as the long term replacement for Fernandinho..

I never said they wouldn’t strengthen but I think what’ll they’ll lose overall will be more than what they gain.

How many of them played last night?

As last night proved the league won’t be decided by games against each other, it’ll be decided by how consistent both teams are against everyone else.

City without the players above lack the consistency needed against the other 18 teams.

We are far more consistent and I think that will continue next season.

The remaining games with zero on the line shouldn’t be used to judge either team.

I never said they wouldn’t strengthen but I think what’ll they’ll lose overall will be more than what they gain.

I really think they are either going to be relegated or in some other way implode after at least one year CL ban is upheld. I would be very surprised if they managed to put the disappointments behind them and come back stronger and hungrier the way we did last season - if they do I’ll hold up my hand and say well done Pep and City, but I seriously question if they have this kind of character.

If we lose 4-0 to Aston Villa then we can start worrying... We actually played well to until they scored the penalty and then it looks as if we caved in concentration wise...

I think it was a case of losing our focus after they scored. Instead we should have tried to take the sting out of city's intensity especially after they scored. We lost our heads and got smacked and then thought sod it, were still Champions! The end.

Why do people on tiny forums actually think someone like Klopp would read the posts, let alone give a toss about them?
Why do one assume I am talking about internet forum or twitter? This is a statement in general hoping that the owners and the fucking match goers, phone in fuckers, not to chase him out of the club!

Fixed. We should be looking to next season 😉

Ha well I doubt they’ll get relegated 😀 but I agree I don’t see them having the stomach for the battle with us. We are not perfect but we are relentlessly effective and professional which makes the overaction to the city game laughable.

Yesterday was an opportunity to lay down a marker, an absolute statement of intent..

Instead we wake up this morning to be a bit of laughing stock..

With all the talk of FSG restricting transfer activity to selling players to buy and other Teams strengthening are we in danger of becoming a 'flash in the pan' ?

Now personally I'm not arsed about yesterday's result, it basically confirmed to me if you are not 100% focused, mentally and physically prepared against City you stand absolutely no chance against them.

I am a little bothered about our unprofessionalism leading to the game. Celebrations imho should have waited till the Trophy lift. However given the suspension to the PL and the longer break between games, I can understand why..

I don't think I've ever seen a team celebrate winning something in such a manner without actually lifting the Trophy first... Strange times indeed..

To me now its all about how we respond.. Liverpool need to shut up our critics and absolutely smash that points record.. Our away form at the moment in all competitions is a cause for concern and needs to be addressed.. It also highlights the need to strengthen up Top.. We can't rely on the front 3 in the manner we have been moving forward to compete at the highest level in all competitions. Origi as back up certainly is not the answer

As for the rest of the Season, reset and carry on.. Then have those celebrations again at the end of the season, when all the records are smashed

Get the points record, there is your statement of intent, sign some players to strengthen that forward line.. There's another..

Great Liverpool Teams of the past build upon success with more success over a sustained period, this team must start to do the same..

Its whole new ball game to this squad, a new mindset, being winners.. They must deliver to be considered one of the Greatest Liverpool Teams ever..

Its a slight bitter taste losing 4-0 straight after being announced league champions a few days earlier.
Going back to your central question, doing nothing is a recipe for disaster. People talk about the points gap, for me its irrelevant. 2017/2018 season we finished on 75 points, the following season we ended up on 97 points. Leicester, went from just escaping relegation to winning the league, then back to mid-table mediocrity. We have an exceptional manager and players, but they're human and fatigue sets in, and you need new legs to help refreshen the squad. Cavani and Willian could help the attack out whilst not demanding a huge number of games. Then we just need to sort out the back, selling Lovren,Wilson, Grujic (and or Shaq), could just do that.
The club had a net +ve spend of £30m last year, so hopefully Klopp will be allowed to sell fringe players to bring in good squad players (as it sounds at the moment he will be required to sell just to cover the black hole due to covid19)

They won't get any sort of CL ban, and even if they did, they definitely wouldn't get relegated.

I said that would happen even during lockdown. We could’ve just fucked off every game and still won the league.

We may never actually gotten over the line before in the PL but we've definitely had really strong squads before that we knew needed strengthening in key areas to progress. And we've fucked it up time and again.

It'd be heartbreaking to see it happen again - particularly in light of what the squad and the management team have achieved with relatively limited resources.

I get the frustration and I feel it too (though not as keenly as I might have done prior to all this Covid shit).

I've never understood the "just be happy mantra". What does the acceptable face of happiness look like? Sitting in our bedrooms humming YNWA whilst posting ad nauseam about how wonderful everything is? Come on guys.

You can be happy AND look ahead.
