Brighton & Hove Albion v Liverpool - Match Thread

I dont think it was dissimilar from the penalty Salah got against West Ham. Every thing is a penalty now, its just become farcical. Reviews of reviews of millimetre based infractions. Its pointless

Honestly , stick some fucking paper-mache on Thiago for the next game please.

Nat Phillips is solid , he gets the gig alongside whoever until first teamers return

No more mini playing deep please

No more neco Williams in a weak side , needs Millie / hendo Infront of him and a senior CB to help him out

It's going to be long and tough old season

Thiago won't be fit so don't worry about it

I’m not going to hate wellbeck too hard because the way things are you have to go down at times or you’re getting nothing. Is contact all that matters though?

In principle, deliberate contact should be penalised and accidental contact shouldn't. How to tell the difference in the cut and thrust of a Premiership game though?

What definitely DOESN'T matter is how "heavy" the contact was. Any talk of a "soft penalty" is pure garbage. The rules say bugger all about it.

Yeah, we were shite. Didnt deserve much, but feels like you’ve been robbed with those sort of descisions.

Much better in the second after Henderson came on.

Not sure what Minamino's role is in the team. The only good thing he did was to foul a Brighton player to stop a potential counter.

Would it have been given as a foul anywhere else on the pitch ? I doubt it and the referee himself undoubtedly wouldn't have given it. Unfortunately if VAR tells you to check the screen it would take a very very brave ref. to not then overturn his original call.

If we want to take that pressure off the refs then EVERY potential penalty must be reviewed so the ref. so he doesn't feel he is under pressure one way or the other.

Pressure? The fucking cunt sat in the video room gives it like a cunt, because there is zero pressure on him, it's not his responsibility. So he gives it, like a fucking cunt who will hopefully electrocute himself to death one of these days in that office. The on field ref can then jog over like also like a cunt, watch a replay, then has zero pressure on him, because it's not his responsibility, gives it, nothing to do with me. The cunt refs have just found a way to avoid them individually being called out for being the cunts they are. Cowardly cunts.

I for one am going to look up some of the other older cunt refs from the 90's. I'm sure some of them have passed on by now. Think of me what you will, but all you can do is look them up and try to get some joy by laughing. Hopefully some died in hilarious ways.

I may have gone too far in my search.

Police in Argentina are searching for a footballer who is said to have shot and killed a referee after being sent off in a match played in the Córdoba province.
According to local reports, the player retrieved a gun from his bag after being shown a red card, returned to the pitch and shot 48-year-old César Flores dead.

A police source told the Efe news agency: “It all happened during the football match. We don’t know [exactly what took place], but it appears the player was angry, fetched a gun and killed him.”

Local reports said Flores was shot three times, in the head, chest and neck, while another player, Walter Zárate, was injured, but is understood to be out of danger.

The piss take is VAR shit out of a decision. What’s the point. The ref may as well jog to the monitor for every decision.

Yes, he was. You can see why Stuttgart wanted him on a permanent and why we initially decided not to sign another CB last summer.

Good job VAR wasn't knocking about in Maradona's day....Shilton would've been done for trying to punch the wee lad..

The game was far better when the on field Ref made the decisions, today it was VAR 4 LFC Nil. The integrity of the game has been damaged. I mean it's a pain but if your actually at the game and you have to wait for VAR for something that is a fag paper decision. You lose the spontaniety, the theatre, the whole matchday experince is somehow reduced. But we have to get in with it.

These media twits are really tiresome. Des Kelly there was a disgrace. That's not his job. It's like that tiresome lump of lard Martin Samuel, who specialises in patronising 'let me sit you down and try to explain this to you' pieces, telling Klopp 'you can't complain because your bosses agreed this' - what the fuck is Klopp supposed to tell his bosses - 'Oh, before you agree any financial deal, run it by me and I'll veto it'? What the fuck is Des Kelly doing acting as the spokesperson for HIS bosses? It's outrageous.

He was deliberately trying to get Klopp to have a go at the broadcasters so he could have that argument. It started when he suggested Milner's injury was a hamstring & Klopp said "well done", then he jumped on that & decided to interpret as Klopp blaming him & broadcasters in general for the fixture congestion. I think Klopp was just saying "well done" in a sarcastic way as it was obvious it was a hamstring. He didn't bring up the topic of fixture timing, that interviewer did, purely to try & provoke a reaction.

He was also desperate for Klopp to argue about the penalty, and when he didnt he was clearly disappointed.

Yup. He makes Geoff Shreeves seem quite honourable.

And as for Chris Wilder, boy has he lost a mentor. Klopp was so supportive of him last season, and now for a few stupid sound bites he's clearly genuinely angered Klopp. He'll ponder that, when he's back in the lower leagues, trying to get a job. What a weasel.

Feared a sting in the tail once Mane's goal was ruled out, and sadly my instincts were right. Frustrating game. Was a disjointed performance. Some positives though, Alisson Phillips Robbo Jota were really good.

I’ve sat through The Good Dinosaur twice since our game. I can’t even be arsed watching the other games so let the little shits watch what they want.

My problem with the penalty is the same problem I have with the Pickford v Van Dijk incident. In both the referees don't consider the incident as a whole, instead they focus on a single thing they want confirmation of: VVD incident - offside, Robertson today - contact. Once they confirm that the decision is final.

I do think it was a penalty today but it was obvious the referee looked for contact then walked away from the monitor. Was there even a seconds consideration of anything else? Maybe no more consideration was needed but that approach prevented a rightful penalty or red card against Pickford.

Maybe we need more women referees because the men can seemingly only focus on one thing at a time.
