He's right though. He's never going to play for us and will get a chance at first team football with swansea....its a no brainer.

He was on a very clear and progressive process towards getting first team opportunities. He was given all the right new challenges every year, he was improving, he was encouraged, and this season he was really pushing on. As a 19 year old. In another year he would have been in contention for cup games. A year later, who knows, that was down to him, as it was to TAA, Woodburn and others. If he decided at 19 he was unfairly prevented from leapfrogging the others and racing into the first team, well, he's deluded. But he had a good chance of getting a break into the squad. (And aside from his talent, as an Asian the commercial side of the club were already getting excited at the impact his progression could have had internationally for a club like LFC.)

More on what Yan Dhanda said. Personally, I could've understood it if he was over 21 - unless he has received negative feedback/comments from our coaching staffs.

He played in 18 out of the 22 official games for the under 23s last season. He missed three games due to injury. There are no grounds for him complaining about being underplayed at under 23 level. His goal tally of 5 (inc. 2 in his final game) could have been better, though, as could his solitary assist. His all-round play was better than that suggests, and there were periods of play when he was really very impressive, but he's where you'd expect for a 19 year old, and there's absolutely no reason to think he's been at all hard done by.

Yes. I'd say he was a 6/10 in terms of first team potential. He's nowhere near challenging for any top first team XI, IMHO, but I guess Swansea might see him push on. He's still got loads to learn. I find it really strange as a decision.

It might be a great decision on his part, to go to a club where he feels he has more of a chance at making it.

It's hard to figure out. Does he think he isn't going to be good enough to make it at a top club? There would be some logic if that was the case to him moving to a newly relegated club. But if he thinks he is good enough, he's leaving a top club to work with worse coaches and worse players in a lower league, like Tom Ince (that legend inside his own head) did. Oh well, he's gone, no point dwelling on him.

Absolutely, makes perfect sense. I do think that sometimes a loan is better for the club - assuming he will play.

Just look at Loftus-Cheek, went on loan to Palace in order to play more first-team football, due to the obvious better opportunities at that club as opposed to Chelsea, and now he's in the England squad. Wouldn't have happened if he had been brave and keen enough to ask to leave.

I've only seen him play a few times, maybe twice at most, but he seemed - cliche alert! - really quite nimble and comfortable on the ball, given how fucking huge he is.

Reminded me a bit of Ballack in that way.

I doubt it. But maybe he feels the best path to a top club first team is to get exposure with a smaller club's first team.

The issue with loans is that there’s no long-term benefit for the club taking the player on loan.

If the player on loan doesn’t have an almost immediate impact they end up getting discarded - which helps no one.

By signing the player - the club will reap some long term benefit from developing the player - even if it’s just selling them on.

Loans haven’t really worked that well in our favour.
