Post Match Bournemouth (A) 0-2 Saturday 1st Feb

I'm thought they were very impressive. I thought it was a tremendous result.

We are talking about the performance.

What was the xG for that, I wonder?

HRM, 1-3, more or less.

Well, like, what the fuck do I know?
I don’t think it’s possible to get that result without a tremendous display but wtf do I know.

Ye guys are fucking impossible to please.
Ha.

Allison - sublime - not only in the reflex saves but off his line like a boss.

Robertson - brilliant defensively today when everyone was worried about him.

Virgil - incredible defensively again

Konate - won so many duals, keep him fit and we win the league

Trent - get fucked

Gravy - another brilliant display, he’s so good on the half turn in tight spaces.

Macca - also brilliant and was everywhere. So strong on the ball under pressure.

Dom - fell over a lot and couldn’t sort his feet but fuck me does he run all day and press so incredibly intelligently. You can see why Slot always picks him.

Salah - scored a brilliant pen, a worldie goal, tracked back, won a heap of frees, always available to recieve the ball, beat his man and even let Slot sub him off. Sensational. The difference maker yet again!

Gakpo - won the peno (it definitely was one btw) was strong on the ball and worked very hard without getting the space he had enjoyed in recent weeks to get a goal.

Diaz - anyone criticising him in this system doesn’t understand it. He’s doing exactly what is asked of him, ran eveeywhere, linked up well, would have had a goal had Gravy played him in and unlucky with the header. Strong on the ball with his back to goal under pressure. Great display.

Jones - superb cameo, I was worried we might lose control of midfield with Macca off but Curtis was everywhere. Brilliant for the goal, won the ball back and ran his socks off.

Nunez - superb 20 mins. He doesn’t just work hard, he’s strong and powerful so his workfare is impactful. He throws himself about and his weighted pass to release Diaz for the goal should not be understated. Brilliant stuff.

Bradley - also sensational, got forward but was immense defensively coming in cold to high paced game against a team full of players who run until the very last minute. They score so many late goals and Bradley snuffed out so many dangerous attacks.

Endo - had 8 mins and still managed to throw himself about. I fucking love him.

Slot - He’s levels above the rest. Outstanding set up, selection, subs and control today against a very tricky side.
OK yeah agree with most (but maybe not quite as highly) so could upgrade it to a very good game.

And if you want to understand the pressure of todays game just look at what Kluivert did with an open goal off the back hattricks and assured finishing for weeks.

It was a high intensity game which always lends itself to individual mistakes but collectively we were superb imo.

Btw I love the arrogance and confidence of their 19 year old CB. Clattered into us a few times.

Definitely one to monitor and I’d sign Kerkez tomorrow. A gem who runs forever, is strong and intelligent.
Yeah I kept an eye on Huijsen during the game. Barely put a foot wrong.
However...we made it "easier" for him by not playing an out and out striker.
The Dutch should really try to convince him to switch back to the Dutch national team.

We can't afford to play poorly like today vs Everton because the refs at Goodison Park will give them absolutely everything in the name of it being "a derby" and the "last game ever at Goodison".
If we play like that against Everton we’ll win 5-0.

They were restricted to attacks from the left side. We totally nullified Kluivert.

Wow. We played decent but blessed. They hit the post three times, disallowed goal barely and Ali to the rescue many times. Great result but we will have to play much better moving forward.

Again terrific win on the road.
I thought it was twice and the offside wasn't barely! He was clearly a yard offside and VAR wasn't required (though they insisted on showing they still there) my blind Nan spotted that a mile away.

He got free a couple of times and could have scored from the one Ali knew little about and missed a sitter. I like but not sure he’s good enough.

Agree with all this.

I don't like diaz at 9. It doesn't work for me. We looked more expansive and direct with Bradley and Diaz hugging the wings. Last 2 games I can see Diaz is trying, but we don't need a false 9 if that person cannot play that role. His concentration and positional knowledge hinders us.

Probably twice but offside looked like a man’s whisker to me

Last thing regarding Huijsen and his switch to Spain. Kinda tough for a young defender to get a chance with, Van Dijk, De Vrij, Van De Ven, Ake, Botman and De Ligt ahead of him.
Then there's Per Schuurs and Timber too.

No way. He's definitely not good enough.
I'd take Xavi Simons over him.

We've played poorly like today all season, we're doing fine.

Everton are absolutely fucking shite, it's just another game of football.
Yeah, but it's the one ground I've noticed in recent years we can't afford to play poorly at and win. The refs are usually a little more lenient there and allow them to assault our players. And marginal calls (Hendo offside) often go their way. In the name of it "being a derby".

We have to play well there to win.

We get less decisions there than we get at Old Trafford. United try and actually outplay us. Everton are all too happy to kick us off the pitch to win. And if our players (the actually footballers) complain, we're labelled "soft" and told to "get on with it" by pundits.

We are unbeaten in 19. I’ll take it!

Slot: "Their leftback is definitely a threat going forward, and Salah is an incredible player, but his main strength is not following the opposite fullback... It's clear that if you leave Trent constantly against semenyo and kerkez in s 2v1, that is not the best idea that I can come up with."

Playing down the middle may not be Diaz' best position, but without Jota we're short of quality options there and he's the best of a thin crop. Nunez was OK today when he came on, but is too hit-and-miss for my liking and IMO is better coming off the left - at least Diaz (though he's probably better in both positions at the moment) will be basically competent down the middle. Overall though, it's definitely a position in which we need to strengthen.

It's a bitch of a position to play and the thing he has that jota, who isn't shy by any means, doesn't have, is just relentless energy.

It isn't his favorite position, and he's underpaid, and it's not glamorous, and purely being selfish, I don't think it helps him to play there. It's something that allows others to get the plaudits more. Despite all that he works like a dog there because that's who he is on the pitch.

Jota is better in that position against most teams, and maybe on his day his lethality just undoes Bournemouth, but the way this game played out, Diaz set the tone.

Watching MOTD...
What are they on about?! Soft pen?!
It's as clear as day. He was tripped.

Lineker says it wouldn't have been given a few years ago. Really?
So a few years ago you could trip people in the box and it was just fine?
