What player, who disappointed you last year, will bounce back this year to his 'regular self' or even better that?

I am honestly hoping Stevie G gets over this injury problem and returns to himself ...

Other than that, I expect GlenJo to have a much better year too.

I can't tell if you're taking the piss or not!

Glock - I wanted to pick Agger, but I doubt he can stay fit long enough. He's wery wery fwagile.

I think he'll be sold.

Joe Cole would be a logical choice if he's not sold.

Pepe to save more penalties this year and also to regain his Golden Gloves.

I think Joe Cole is a good shout. He had a tough first season with us, but a player doesn't go from being a great player to a bad player overnight.

wiz, could the same not be said about Gerrard though? Chances are, due to the seriousness of his injury, and the length of time
it is taking him to get over it, he could well be classed as extremely fragile and struggle to stay fit this season.

other than those already mentioned, I don't think anyone's form has dipped so severely as to expect them to have to bounce back that much.

There will always be some people claiming that any player is playing really well or really badly, usually based on whether or not they like them, so it is a difficult one to judge anyway.

Opinion on how well a player is performing is rarely ever unanimous, apart from possibly in the case of Reina

Skrtel ended the season well after a horrible start, the same could be said of Glen Jo too, so there's a few. I'm hoping a few players like those two step it up this season, they're not youngsters anymore they're experienced players who need to show it and cut out the lapses in concentration you normally see in the younger player.

Skrtel is a case in point really. Even if he does have a great season I'm sure there will be some who won't admit it. Like that article you posted in another thread, the guy who wrote that has clearly written off Skrtel as shite and I doubt he will change his mind, and we have seen people on here slating him a lot, often as a kind of odd defence of Agger.

Agger and Gerrard.

If we are indeed going all the way with a title-push this Season we probably need those two firing on all cylindars.

Highly unlikely they'll both stay fit sadly. But there's always hope.

Agger is about as instrumental to us as most of the team, Gerrard's importance is on a par with the likes of Suarez and Reina. I don't really see how Agger is that much of a difference between success and failure, certainly not in the same way as Stevie and the others are.

Stevie is of more importance overall of course but I do believe we've struggled in the back because of Agger's injuries and the proper lack of good options when he's out. Agger does offer us more than any other defender in the ranks in terms of possession and attacking-play and if he could indeed stay fit I don't believe we'll be in the need of a new CB at this stage.

We've had this discussion you and me at least a thousand times mate, and we simply have to agree to disagree when it comes to the impact of Agger compared to Skrtel. One is decent and mostly reliable, the other can turn us into a better team overall. IMO.

That's why I believe Agger's fitness-levels could indeed prove vital for our chances to win the title. The Carra and Skrtel-partnership doesn't fill me with the same confidence.

That certainly was the case under Roy but remember we've got a great manager now who prefers to play proper football. 🙂

Do you think Agger will be first choice under Dalglish?

That is a genuine question by the way. I am not trying to take the piss.

Not until he can prove his fitness 100%.

In other words, no.
[/quote]

Spot on. I think Agger should count himself extremely lucky that his Club have been so patient with him over the years.

Am absolutely certain he's first choice CB alongside Carra when fit.

He's exactly the type of footballer Kenny likes and I'm betting he's keeping his fingers as firmly crossed as Agger himself, that he'll stay clear of more worrying injuries.

To be honest I'm a bit baffled that you guys even doubt this? Didn't he even wear the armband in Asia a few weeks back?

Kenny holds Agger in great esteem I believe, whether that'll result in playing time however is down to whether if his body can keep up. Which sadly is a big IF.

What is that based on? Has Kenny ever signed many defenders like Agger?

Like it's not obvious. I'd love to stick my head in some parallel World where Skrtel is Danish and Agger isn't.

The worst thing is, the theory is plausible because he is a good footballer, but the fact it's stated so 'matter of fact' like:

He's exactly the type of footballer Kenny likes

and

Am absolutely certain he's first choice CB alongside Carra when fit.

and

To be honest I'm a bit baffled that you guys even doubt this

It actually makes me want to oppose the point vociferously because it's so tainted, exaggerated and bloody transparent!

No offence KHL, but it's just so.. arrrrrggggghhhh!

Kenny has often singled Agger out for praise. He's already handed him the captaincy albeit in a friendly. Likes football to be Played on the Ground. Etc.

Aggers been absolutely delighted with the appointment of Kenny because of his style and approach. Especially compared to Roy's obviously.

Here's a piece from a while back.

I dont know why you're so worked up about it mate? Perhaps I'm wrong and He prefers Skrtel. I doubt it though.

You're missing the point Kris, I said myself in the reply, of course it's plausible, yet he's said the same sort of stuff about Carra who's more or less the anti-Agger too. It's the fact you read too much into anything remotely Agger connected and exaggerate x a million. He's backed alot of players since he's come here. Do you think he sees Lucas as perfectly fitting into his idea of how his team should play? Yet he's done similar interviews about him (and given him a new contract). There's plenty of less elegant players in the team whom he's backed and played, yet when he backs Agger it's because he's 'such an elegant footballer who so obviously fits into his scheme of things'.

I couldn't give a shit who he prefers, I'm just bored with the whole 'matter of fact' way we get told things regarding the Great Dane and that last liner "I doubt it though" just about sums up my point.
