German champions Borussia Dortmund showcased their latest training machine - "the Footbonaut" - on Wednesday in Dortmund, Germany.

But the so-called Footbonaut is allowing Borussia Dortmund to get one step ahead of their rivals through the use of cutting edge technology.

Footbonaut is a four-sided, ball feeding machine erected on a 14-metre square grid, providing non-stop footballs to a receiving player.

With a total of 64 targets to aim at in a 360-degree environment, Borussia Dortmund are the first professional club to use the Footbonaut, with players enjoying the novel addition to training.

Mustafa Amini, Borussia Dortmund: "The facility is great. And just the repetition of the ball you get and the technique and help your technique and your vision and opening up and looking for the target."

Footbonaut has been in full use at Dortmund since March, and has also been used for rehabilitation training for injured first team and youth players

We should lock Jose Enrique in one for a few weeks and get another with the speed turned up to 11 as a dodge ball torture chamber for Downing every time he plays shite.

Yea but I can't help thinking that it seems more like something they'd roll out at the park outside the world cup or champions league final for a bit of fun, not a serious training tool for professionals.

I don't think its a full on 100% training tool, but it I can see its appeal and uses.

Something for players to do on an individual level ... after training, before training ...
