You know the type... Zidane house hunting on the Wirral... betting suspended on Ribery, etc.

Which is the biggest, most non realistic rumour that we've pulled off?

I guess Fernando seemed feasible at the time... maybe none have ever happened?

Anyone older on the "where do you think that Dalglish fella's going?" rumours?

There must be someone we've signed previously to keep me convinced we've got a humdinger in the bag this summer?

Crouch.

I was convinced he was a smokescreen. I was certain we'd never sign anyone as rubbish as him.

How about Fowler back to us?

I remember Jamo (anfieldanfield) saying he will do something daft if Fowler rejoined us.

Craig Bellamy : When rumors of Rafa being interested in Bellamy started during spring of 2006 ( I believe), one poster in another forum offered to set fire to his pubes if the transfer happened.

The biggest has to be Zidane, or when that guy from Brookside, Louis Emerick (Mick Johnson) was seen at Anfield, and it turned into a "Luis Enrique spotted at Anfield" rumour.

EDIT, I read the thread wrong.

Kewell, Morientes and Babbel where all massive WOW signings.

Kewell and Morientes = the biggest disappointments of my life (excuse the slight exaggeration)

I saw the 8:07 Euston to Liverpool Virgin Pendolino this morning. I was very excited but joy turned to dismay when I realised my little book was full.

On a smaller scale maybe, but Voronin. He was high on the list of players I wanted us never even to consider. In the event he hasn't been quite as poor as I expected after watching him ponce around ineffectually for the Ukraine, but even so....

i think torres personally. i know it wasn't out of the blue, but i can't think of any big signings that were. torres seemed unlikely for so long just because of his status in the world game - he's got to be our most high-profile, glamourous signing ever, right? not even man utd often sign players as big as torres. in fact, i can't think of any...the closest is probably rooney, but he's english which made it a bit easier to pull off.

as for one that almost happened, i remember being ultra excited/surprised at us nearly signing chilavert.
