HahahaI loved the reporter (the one who looks like he hasn't eaten for about a month) SSN had outside his hotel earlier: 'He's inside, Jim. He's looked calm. He's trying on shoes! People have brought in boxes of shoes and he's trying them on! Back to you, Jim!!' Brilliant TV.
Reina writes: “Pellegrini had just lost his job at Real Madrid despite doing a really good job there and giving Barcelona a run for the La Liga title.
“He was available and we needed a manager. For me, it made perfect sense. I said so, telling Purslow that Pellegrini was the right man. It wasn’t just because I knew him. It was more about the style of football that he plays, getting teams to attack all the time.
“Pellegrini has an attacking mentality and, when Purslow asked me about him, I said, ‘He’s a great manager and a great man in the dressing room’. He would never sit deep and just accept being put under pressure by opponents.
“I know that the club spoke to Pellegrini a couple of times when they were looking for a new manager because he told me.
“He called me and asked me what the mood was like in the dressing room, what the players were thinking and so on. I really hoped that he would get the job.”
Reina added: “The only slight concern I had was that he didn’t have any experience in English football.”
Just been reading about Pellegrini on wiki. All he's won outside of Old El Paso type Leagues is the Inter Scroto Cup in 2004. Big fuckin wow.
Then when he was given a chance at Madrid he was sacked ... despite the fact Real Madrid finished with 96 pts, with Barca somehow managing to just better that!
Has higher win% of 75 than Mourinho's 72.57% too. Worth noting that in 07/08 when Villarreal finished 2nd, they were 10 points ahead of 3rd placed Barcelona and 8 behind champions Real Madrid.
Good - I really hope they hire a good manager who can actually win something with that large investment. Seriously - all that money and look how far behind United they were, none of those teams put up a challenge. He fucking deserves it.
As for my comment about a good manager - i just want someone in those big spending clubs who can challenge so that I can live to see our team once again be the team with the most titles. We are two behind now so the more teams out there that can challenge United in the next two - three seasons for that title the better. And in case you are wondering - NO - I don't have any hope that we will win the title in the next 2 to 10 years
Yeah, a manager who has won 12 thropies in his career is obviously shite.
City were amazing last season but didnt step up this season. Bought all the wrong players and were awful in Europe.
Mancini has done quite a good job at City and won them a league title.
So, still no trophies then?
Just wondering why, last week, the stick to beat Moyes with was no trophies. But that's OK this week with Pellegrini.
"Despite everyone's best efforts, the club has failed to achieve any of its stated targets this year, with the exception of qualification for next season's UEFA Champions League," City said in a statement.
"This, combined with an identified need to develop a holistic approach to all aspects of football at the club, has meant that the decision has been taken to find a new manager for the 2013/14 season and beyond."
