Biggest net profit ever

Yeah the tax will, but the interest won't, if they have been taking interim divs and then declare the profit and take them.

I thought their business was based on stealing an asset for a couple of hundred million and building it up to be worth billions. So maybe, just maybe, they're declaring all that profit because of FFP and they're going to go mental in the summer.

I genuinely - stupidly - thought they actually would "go mental" in summer, but there's a lot of stories being planted recently to prepare us for actually not doing that at all.

Because "we've spent so much money securing Firmino, Salah, Mane, Gomez blah blah etc etc on new, expensive long-term contracts, and that's been the most important financial outlay and guaranteed the long-term success of the club".

Yeah, I can't see it.

I think capital outlay on stadium/training is exempt from FFP too so I wouldn't be surprised to see Phase 2 of stadium expansion get announced.

For me the biggest opportunity for any football club commercially is properly monetising its fanbase (who if smart, will realise their role in this driving money to the club). E.g. finding a way for tech firms who want to data to get this (with permission) from fans, negotiating deals for fans from sponsors, having meaningful interactions between fans and sponsors etc. 'Data is the new oil' is often touted around and I usually disregard it but for a club with millions of fanatical supporters, if we found a way to offer bodies and data/users to organisations i think we'd get some awesome long term revenue streams.

"It's like FaceBook, but for football clubs!"

Arghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I don't really have any solutions to the above but it is clearly an opportunity.

Fans only really want content these days if it is localised & personalised, or anything that enhances the 'fan experience' (and isn't cringe)
Sponsors want fan data and better marketing effectiveness
The club wants sponsors who will pay big money for this fan data, and act in the right way.

It's quite an exciting triangle of 'needs'

Was "Triangle Of Needs" on one of your PowerPoint charts?

They’d have better fan experience and interaction if they didn’t sell shit beer at the game.

Yes.

Carlsberg is fucking Grim, and San Miguel (draught - I actually like the bottles for some reason) is even worse! And £4 a pop as well.

Get Coors on draft you Yankee twats!

Don't lose hope yet. The best way to go mental is to not announce to everyone that you are going to go mental beforehand...

Our wage bill has increased to 263 mill £, 3 mill more than City and takes us second behind Utd. Chelsea are on 244. Spurs around 170.

Man City are refusing to cooperate with Uefa over these issues. I’m sure HMRC will have an interest in these contracts.

Yep. I may have a word with someone about that, someone I know very well at HMRC who deals with multinationals over their tax schemes.

Unfortunately I can tell you now that their response will be to come to a settlement.

As everyone knows HMRC can't afford the legal fees to take it all the way through court cases they all end up settling & paying less than they would otherwise.

Sad, exceptionally short sighted, but true.

Once they do that though, eufa will have all the ammunition they need. Whether they choose to do anything with it is a completely different matter of course.

After all the effort FSG spent to reduce the wage bill, this seems unexpected.

I’ve been frustrated with our solicitors office coming back saying they don’t have the resources or belief they’d win at tribunal. Makes you look like a cunt arguing for months or even years just to drop the case.

They’ve locked in a lot of <26 year old players for 3-4 years during a period we can expect contracts to keep rising.

Hmmm, they took Rangers to court time and again until they won the case.

I’d be happy with that.

Although the rest of the world thinks we’re cunts - so maybe they’re after us too!!!

I heard the maddest arrangement to do with large bonuses with HMRC recently. It's fucking nuts... And not apocryphal, I know it coz i was asked about developing the code.

The short way of describing it is that if you're part of one of these awards plans where your bonus is expected to be a million quid, you can pay 20% at the start of the year and that's all you pay no matter how much you get, but you don't get it back if you get nothing. This effectively makes the HMRC the bookie, but apparently they're happy with this arrangement because a lot of people will either leave the country or get it paid offshore if they come looking for them after the event.

But... This one scheme I was looking at was for three dudes. The way it works is there is a pot with all the bonus in. If someone leaves they get nothing and the others get the rest. In this case it was a CEO, CFO and CTO. The pot was around five million. The CFO and CTO didn't pay in advance and left. The CTO did and got the whole five million, but only paid 20% on the 1.66 million be was expected to get. An effective tax rate of around 6% on a massive bonus.

My first question was, do these guys know each other and move from company to company doing this shit? Didn't get an answer.

But yeah, the HMRC is fucked, and can easily be gamed by wealthy people.

By the way, that was for one year, for one award related to one part of the business. They have layers and tiers of these things in place
