Out of the games so far it's Bailly, he looks like a great footballer

Ya Utd have a superb player there, 3/4 motm awards

3 or 4? He's not been that good. Still look like an accident waiting to happen and rash as fuck.
Lets see him against som decent strikers first. Utd have had a extremely easy fixture list so far.

I also reckon Bailly's benefiting big time by comparison with the hopeless state of their defence at times under Mad Louie and under Moyes before him. Bailly's a good player right enough, but like Hansern I'll need to see him tested a lot more thoroughly before I start bigging him up overmuch.

United had the best defensive record in the league last season. It was hardly an area of the team under LVG that was ever 'hopeless'

He got in 3 out of 4, it's not my opinion it's what he got

Too early to judge. Any half decent CB would look great against the oppo theyve played so far. Until he's faced Aguero, Studge, Firminio and other top forwards wouldn't rate him.

He's created more chances than anyone else in the league so far (10), so that should be a decent test for most.

He's made over 50 appearances for Liverpool, and averages around a goal every 5 games. He's scored 10 Premiership goals in total. none in three so far this season.

He's not really a very good striker at all.

He's not an out an out striker either though is he? Not really sure it matters as you clearly have made up your mind about him already.

You were the one who labelled him a "top forward" along with Aguero and Sturridge.

And yes, that's where he plays for Liverpool. Unfortunately. One goal every five appearances. Not good enough if he's going to play there.

Firmino has 10 goals and 9 assists in 34 premier league appearances .

That's not too shabby, for a player whos playing for a side that finishes 8th or whatever but I agree with the original sentiment , he's not going to strike fear into any half decent defender

Even though this detours from the O.P re:CBs, I think Firmino is really good. Our forward line has been struggling some, but Firmino stands out as a player capable to beating his man, holding the ball and creating space for others. Its hardly his fault that others cannot score from the chances he's created.

Where is the comparison with Aguero and Sturridge in the sentence below??

I never read much into those statistics. It's not that it's a bad thing "creating the most chances" but it does raise loads of questions - what constitutes a "chance", how easy were they to convert and so forth and so forth.

I like Firmino for all the reasons people have already mentioned and I can forgive the "going missing" side of things because most attacking midfielders and forwards of his type do that. I do struggle to forgive the frequent lapses of concentration however. His touch and passing in some games can be sloppy to the point where I almost struggle to believe he's not doing it on purpose.

The bottom line is that Firmino should be the part of the supporting cast rather than the star attraction. I suppose that's kinda what Brendan is getting at but the problem is you could say that about pretty much every attacker we have (and I include Sturridge in that).

Indeed. It's a bit stupid to label someone a striker and then say he's no good, when it's abundantly clear he's not actually a striker in the first place.

He keeps playing as a striker, though.

That's part of the problem with him, especially when he's the only "striker" on the pitch.

Guys i am confused by him - what the fuck is he ? He plays so far up front that he cant be anything other than a striker.

He's been playing as a striker, a majority of the time actually.

It's all well and good saying he's a midfielder (he's not), but he HAS been a striker for us

Or a false 9, whatever. It's not his fault that Klopp has benched three goalscorers over the last year or so, he is creative and will get some goals. Kuyt had a similar record for us and most people appreciated what he brought to the team. He does need to be playing off a goalscorer though.
