Besiktas post match

True. Although Leto was able to produce a decent burst of pace when he needed to go past someone, he had nothing on Ibe.

Here's a wonderful video showing how Messi and Leto compare in a side by side comparison (why would anyone make this video?)

It is about time someone made a Nemeth v Ronaldo (cunt version) video.

It wasn't the greatest game but we looked good again. Besiktas are a decent team; top of the Turkish league, have beaten and drawn with Spurs this season, drew with Arsenal and only lost 1-0 at the Emirates.

On another day that game could have finished 3 or 4-1. Yes Ba could have scored but so should Lallana and a few of those goalmouth scrambles didn't fall our way.

Could be an exciting finish to our season.

I'm very confident of our trip to Istanbul now. Besiktas have a great away record (9-1-0) yet strangely at home it's 6-2-2. We'll score and that will make it very very difficult for them.

Yes, at Anfield Besiktas spent most of their time in their own half - although they were dangerous on the break. In Istanbul they will have to play a more open game.

yeah just got translated few stuff from a website and read that at home they try to attack more so they concede like anything. We will surely go through. I am more worried about Southampton game...manCity draw should be fine for me

For the return leg in Istanbul (I think their #1 keeper will still be out too) : -

Besiktas are facing a defensive crisis ahead of next Thursday’s Europa League second leg with Liverpool in Istanbul.

Both left-back Ramon Motta and centre-back Ersan Gulum will miss the game due to suspension after picking up bookings at Anfield.

Motta’s deputy Ismail Koybasi faces a race against time to prove his fitness, while the absence of the experienced Gulum will lead to a call-up for rookie Atinc Nukan.

I thought their winger - Tore - gave us a bit of problems with his pace and skill in the first leg. They'll need to score twice to win the tie, so their problems with missing defenders may not hit them as badly. If we stay solid and hit them on the counter with our pace, we can kill the tie with one goal on the break. A front three of Ibe - Sturridge - Sterling can see to that pretty effectively, with Manquillo brought in to provide a more conservative RB option perhaps.

.... On top of that they mentioned in the last game that Besiktas play their 'home' games in different stadiums due to their own one being developed. And they have poor records in most of them, not enjoying the journey, pitch, etc.

Besiktas' problems have increased ahead of Thursday’s Europa League last 32 second leg clash with Liverpool at Istanbul’s Ataturk Stadium.

Black Eagles boss Slaven Bilic was left to bemoan fatigue after seeing his side knocked off the top of the Turkish Super League by Galatasaray following a shock 1-0 defeat to mid-table outfit Eskisehirspor on Sunday.

Top scorer Demba Ba missed the game due to a calf injury and he’s a fitness doubt for the showdown with the Reds, who lead 1-0 from the first leg courtesy of Mario Balotelli’s late penalty. Besiktas are already without left-back Ramon Motta and centre-back Ersan Gulum due to suspension after they picked up bookings at Anfield.

Established No 1 keeper Tolga Zengin will also miss the contest due to a knee injury so Cenk Gonen will continue to deputise between the posts. “We expected that after playing a tough game at Liverpool,” said Bilic after their league setback. “One may criticize the coach for the loss, but the player rotation is not why we lost.”

Thursday’s game will see Liverpool return to the scene of their remarkable 2005 Champions League triumph over AC Milan. Besiktas are currently using the Ataturk Stadium as their temporary home while their new stadium, the Vodafone Arena, is completed. It’s being built on the same land as the historic Inonu Stadium where Liverpool lost 2-1 back in 2007.

In a bid to fill the 72,000-capacity, Besiktas have slashed ticket prices for the second leg against Liverpool. They have already drawn with Arsenal and beaten Tottenham on Turkish soil this season. “We need our fans to fill the Ataturk Olympic stadium if we are to beat Liverpool in the return leg,” Bilic said.

It would be great if we could win this whilst resting a few players, namely Henderson and Can.

If we're serious about progressing in this competition, resting any players away to a Turkish side with a good home record against English teams is not the way to do it.

Maybe I got carried away with Froggy's stats, but I really want at least a point on Sunday, coming back from Turkey is the worst way to prepare.
