It sounds more like blackmail. Extortion is when you threaten to do something illegal unless you get paid, such as beat someone with a cricket bat. Giving a sex tape to the newspapers isn't illegal, it only becomes illegal if the newspapers publish it and that's on them. So Benzema isn't threatening to break the law, he's merely threatening to do something which he could do perfectly legally so long as he didn't demand payment. Blackmail shouldn't carry as heavy a penalty as extortion. I have some sympathy, Valbuena made a mistake, sometimes you have to pay for your mistakes.
