Sunny, I understand what you're saying and I agree - I'm not advocating a free-for-all where everybody tears strips off each other and nothing gets done, and I'm not saying we should just ban people on the premise that we don't like what they're saying (although I might be persuaded to make an exception for Rebel!).
However, what I do think we need to be wary of is a situation where one person is taking the piss - being nothing more than a wind up merchant - and eventually another person snaps, calls them something, and gets banned for it.
For example - take Jaimie K.
His general persona and posting style was nothing but a pisstake, his approach to posting was purely dogmatic, made no real contribution to the forum as whole and just fucked everybody off. He was banned, and rightly so.
However, under the new guidelines would this still happen, or would it be a situation where somebody who's had enough flips, calls him a cunt and gets their marching orders?
This is why I'm saying judge each situation on its own merits, otherwise there's the risk of people playing the game, causing havoc, and far better posters that contribute so much more being forced out when in reality they were goaded into it.
All I'm saying is if someone is taking the piss and being a cunt, they should be told to pack it in and we should be able to call them a cunt.
