But even lurkers can come on the site everyday. Maybe this person spends hours on here everyday and has gotten to know ILD really well, and loathe him.

Haha, I have a new lead in this investigation.

His only two posts we're in the gambling thread, a place I frequent a lot. I probably gave him a nag and he lost his live savings on it, spiralling into a world of depression, vowing to ignore me for life.

I have called for civility before... a few years ago based on British old school of respect and being gentlemanly. Sadly Britain has changed. Good job we still have Portly and a few old timer here.

I don't know where I stand on this whole issue y'know - one of the things I've always liked about this place is we call a cunt a cunt.

I think there should definitely be recourse in the case of completely unwarranted and random abuse (unless it's funny) and I think there should be some measures in place to prevent ganging up on people (again, unless it is warranted), but I think this should be judged on an individual basis rather than a one-cap-fits-all approach.

I also think that when people are on the obvious wind up, someone should have a word - whether there's personal abuse or not, fuck 'em. If they're clogging up the forum with bullshit and bollocks then set 'em straight or fuck 'em off.

Sunny, I understand what you're saying and I agree - I'm not advocating a free-for-all where everybody tears strips off each other and nothing gets done, and I'm not saying we should just ban people on the premise that we don't like what they're saying (although I might be persuaded to make an exception for Rebel!).

However, what I do think we need to be wary of is a situation where one person is taking the piss - being nothing more than a wind up merchant - and eventually another person snaps, calls them something, and gets banned for it.

For example - take Jaimie K.

His general persona and posting style was nothing but a pisstake, his approach to posting was purely dogmatic, made no real contribution to the forum as whole and just fucked everybody off. He was banned, and rightly so.

However, under the new guidelines would this still happen, or would it be a situation where somebody who's had enough flips, calls him a cunt and gets their marching orders?

This is why I'm saying judge each situation on its own merits, otherwise there's the risk of people playing the game, causing havoc, and far better posters that contribute so much more being forced out when in reality they were goaded into it.

All I'm saying is if someone is taking the piss and being a cunt, they should be told to pack it in and we should be able to call them a cunt.
