At The End Of The Storm, There's A Golden Sky.
It amazes me how true the lyrics of YNWA are to life.
This Sunday, Brisbane will play Central Coast in the A-League Grand Final.
An incredible achievement for Brisbane, which finished 2nd last in the previous season, followed by a mass exodus of senior players. A new manager was brought in and so far this season the side has been beaten only once, and is currently on a 27 game unbeaten streak.
A year ago the club's survival was in question. A few months ago the question was - is this the greatest football team in Australian football history? Today, the question is - is this the greatest club side across any sport in Australia? While that may be open to debate, the fact that a question like that is being asked indicates how far the club has come in a season.
I'm writing this to express what it means not only to myself but the people of Brisbane. The club is only 6 years old. In that time I've got right behind it and have yet to miss a single home game - in the process missing funerals and family weddings!
For me, it doesn't get any better than what will come on Sunday. A Liverpool supporter I am. But this club represents MY city, and I now begin to realise the pride Scousers must feel about LFC.
For Brisbane as a whole, I'm sure you all recall the recent floods that devasted the city. Its a city whose people are deeply passionate about sport.
52,000 - a sell out - will watch the Grand Final. A sea of orange (the club colours) will dwarf the city and stadium. I pray, not only for the loyal fans, but for the people affected by the floods, that the side can triumph on the day and bring joy to the people who have gone through so much in recent months.
13 of March, 2011 @ 4PM ... I will be sitting with 52,000 people in orange, nervous as fuck, hoping to see the side do the business in a stadium that only a few months ago was flooded and sections of it were on fire.
The match will be on Sky Sports at 6AM in the UK, Sunday morning.
It's no Barcelona vs. Arsenal (I can assure you though it won't be as mind numbing as Sparta vs. Liverpool either!) - but given the events of the past few months and what this will mean to the people, the incredible passion that will be on display in the stands, it is one game I encourage you to watch if you can get up at that hour on a Sunday.
Roopy.
