Game Summary

Liverpool 3-2 Aston Villa

PROS:
  • We won. Weekend not ruined.
  • Daniel Sturridge.
  • Scored more than one goal in 90 minutes of football.
  • Win was against a bogey team.
  • Good, positive possession.
  • Joe Allen's hair.

CONS:
  • Defense was abject shite again.
  • Didn't do much to erase our GD deficit.
  • It was against Aston Villa. At home.
MOM
Daniel Sturridge

How we have missed a decent striker, still well off the pace fitness wise but surely our mvp. And not his greatest fan but Lucas mom for me.

I have to see the goals again, but not sure the defence was terrible today.
Two excellent crosses and well timed runs, most defences would have struggled with that.

Great to see Sturridge back and scoring, although obviously I'd be gutted if he saves Rodgers for more than a few games.

This three at the back malarkey is pretty laughable, though, IMO. It feels desperate. You have to think good teams will tear us to shreds.

Good to see us win but this wont be enough to save Rodgers long term. We'd have to go on a winning streak for that to happen imho.

But thats for another day. Liverpool winning is the most important thing.

A streak of (sorry, can't resist) streaky wins like today's wouldn't be enough, nor should it be. He'd have to stabilise the whole team and get the defence functioning properly as well. I no longer think he can do that.

But yeah, a win and the return of the Studge are well worth celebrating.

It is a very sad reflection on the state of this site when there are so few posts following a win.
Lose or draw and there would be at least four new threads, all in various guises, calling for Rodgers to be sacked immediately.

Well, we only just scraped home against a mediocre side and the defence was the same old same old. I can understand the muted response.

Sturridge great infront of goal, fair play. Sakho the twat fuck knows what planet he was on today. Have to say I thought Lucas did alright.

What can we do? Pretty much everyone wants the manager gone. Hardly anyone believes this is the start of some great surge.

What would be the point in pretending otherwise? I mean, at the game, sure I can understand feigning support. But here? Why not just be honest?

Lucas was excellent as was Sturridge. Rodgers needs him (not Benteke) staying fit. Moreno gives balance and width which Gomez never could. Some of the one-touch football between Coutinho and Sturridge was outstanding. And finally there was a purpose to Milner's running. But we'll always be conceding from out the blue-- what do the centre-halves do in training because Rodgers has been here for four seasons and it still is the same sh!t all the time. To this end, Sturridge has to stay fit to bale us out.
