Fuck me, crossed arms, sitting alone on the bench and barely involved when he came on.

Granted, the poor sod's been treated like a cunt since he arrived and looks well short of confidence / match fitness - but where was the fire, the urgency to prove something?

He looked scared to try anything other than a simple side pass to that hapless cunt Lucas.

Are we seeing another talent being muzzled through mismanagement, or is he just not ready to play yet?

*Fears a Keane Mk II*

WTF are you on about ?!?

*wonders if that is a record for the most inaccuracies ever in a single post*

Rafa's given him the royal treatment.

I thought his body language before he came on was very telling. He said in the post match interview on Wednesday that he needed to 'play, play, play', he must have felt dejected when he found himself sat on the bench again, yet unlike a few weeks back when he would enthusiastically warm up for 90mins, often to get no run out at all, he'd clearly given up any hope of making it on at all. Or realised his enthusiastic warming up would have no influence on Rafa to bring him on.

He's only been here a few months and already Rafa's made him feel like shit.

That's exactly what I'm thinking. He's playing at Anfield in a HUGE game.

If you can't raise your game for this occasion - then you either aint fit or something else is wrong.

I don't agree that he didn't look up for it once he was on the pitch Terrier, I think he looked pissed off before he got on.

It's called speculation SaintGoerge, it's generally what people do on forums, I can add 'allegedly' or 'In my opinion' at the end of every sentence if it really makes your life better.

I wish people would stop telling us how Rafa treats players/makes them feel etc when they have no idea.

*opening up a big can of worms*

I thought it was widely accepted that Rafa drove Xabi and several others out through his man management?

Yes, I was referring to the several pictures of the bench where he looked pretty bloody miserable.

When I saw Aqua's debut against the Gooners last month, I thought the lad was ready. He was brimming with confidence, he hit a few nice passes and should have won a penalty with a bicycle kick ... He barely saw the pitch again until Fiorentina ... That says it all ... I wouldn't be surprised if this lad's confidence has been severely dented. I'm not that surprised though -

Let's hope unlike the players that this was done to in the past, Aqua comes good.

Jesus. Were the rest of the bench partying like there was no tomorrow then ? Didn't see them smiling either, maybe Rafa's fucked them off too ? It was a cold wet night in the North West and we were losing ... can you please illuminate this thread with yoru thoughts on just why he should have been beaming from ear to ear ?

Anyone who has done even a basic class in body language can tell you that the first thing you look for are extraneous factors that may be affecting your subject's stance. Jeez.

Who said he's a failure?

People on here are so deluded sometimes. Everything's all sunshine and daisys, Rafa's managed Aquilani brilliantly and damn Souness and every other Liverpool fan than dare to fear what the future holds.

The Keane mkII comment. And if you think I'm part of some happy spacker brigade then you're very mistaken.

Actually, being a Liverpool fan is depressing this season.

It's not limited to this site or today.

I actually thought he looked quite promising when he came on.

A couple of negative backwards passes, which are kinda to be expected. But his touch is good, the head's always up, and he was trying to engineer something.

I'd drop Masher for the home game against Wigan and pair Lucas with Aqui. We need to speed things up, get the ball moving quicker, and try to start attacks quicker and earlier. Give it a go.

When do we think this lad might really get involved with the 'team' rather than the squad? If Lucas keeps on being selected ahead of Purple for much longer, I think I might as well just take up netball or something.

Drop Masher? Pair up Purple with Lucarse?

That's insane
[/quote]

I said that we'd probably see Purple/Lucarse quite a few times, precisely because it is insane.

I read that Aquilani was limping at the end of the Arsenal match. I didn't see it myself. Can anyone confirm this please? He is not injured again is he?

He was limping towards the end. It didn't look anything too serious though.

He did look somewhat anxious and overawed on the bench, but I thought he gave a bright performance when on. He certainly didn't hide.

He was involved in a heavy challenge, didnt look too serious.

Aquilani is the type of player who needs to start to see his best.

It wouldn't surprise me.

We were top of the league after a quarter of last season, and Masher hadn't touched leather. Not to say his omission from the side coincided with our great form (and obviously Xabi had a lot to do with it) but we're capable of playing without him.

Especially agaisnt weaker sides at Anfield. I could go on about how I think he slows down our tempo and rhythm a bit when in possession, but it'd be nitpicking cos it's not really his role. I think the Aqui & Lucas partenership could work, on occassions. And yeah, I think we might see it happen.
