Yeah .. he was totally out of his depth against United at OT wasn't he. Oh wait ...........
Like he hasn't been in loads of other games though... give it a rest.

No I won't. The lad has obviously, at a very young age, had to overcome massive changes to everything he's known in his life, both on and off the pitch, as well as globe trotting for Brazilian national duties but some people never give him credit even when he deserves it.
Lucas seems to have actually played his better matches in high profile demanding encounters and add that to his pre-season form and even today's match and he deserves a little breathing space - not to be unreasonably slagged off all the time.

He really hope he comes good this year and rams it down those doubters throats (although I'd still welcome another CM so we don't ever have to consider dropping SG back into CMF).

Ankreds didn't unreasonably slag him off though. In fact, he was very reasonable and illustrated his reasons quite well. That's his opinion and he's entitled to it.

You just chose to get up on your high horse amidst this current wave of Lucas optimism and have a go at being all self-righteous. Lucas against all odds will triumph!!! "Rams it down his doubters throats"...

Fucking listen to yourself man.

No-one seems to be rushing to the defence of Degen despite having barely a couple of games to prove himself in a red shirt. But then, there is no bandwagon to support that now, is there? I'll just have to wait for that one.

I don't agree with everything ankreds has said and I've been more than balanced and fair towards Lucas during his time here... but the fact is that the change in attitude towards Lucas on this board is not down to good pre-season form, it's down to us having a shit summer, losing Alonso, having no replacement for up to two months and desperately having to hope Lucas comes good. I should know because as soon as Alonso went and Aquilani was announced, my first thoughts were "we could really do with Lucas stepping up".

If you want to be the one that could say "HA! TOLD YOU SO!!!" good for you - in the meanwhile, let others have their opinions and shut the fuck up waiting for your moment.

*applauds*

I want Lucas to step up too, as everyone hopes he does, but a good game at Old trafford, does not make up for lots of bad games.

I've always tried to stick up for Lucas, i still hope he develops a bit more personality and the player inside of him bursts out for us all to see. He often tries to make forward runs off the ball and hopefully we'll see more of these eagerness to get into the box this season.

The obvious flaw in his game at the moment is his lack of presence in the midfield. He doesn't impose himself onto games and is often guilty of just watching the game pass hiem by, being neat and tidy but without trying to impact the game. I would like to see him build on pre season confidence and try make that killer pass or make that run where he has the opportunity to stand out. Rafa will give him plenty of playing time while Aqualini gets fit.

His pass againt Newcastlol at the moment is the exception to the rule from him but there is still a player inside of him. I hope we get to see it this season and he takes his chance.

Lucas is a very tidy footballer but he lacks the ability to really impose himself on a game. He does the simple things well, makes positive runs, and rarely misplaces a pass. That said, he doesn't really commit players, and rarely tries anything that isn't safe or predictable. There is no way in the world that we can make do with him as first choice for any length of time if we want to be in the race.

Either we need to sign someone else of real quality, or Aquilani will need to hit the ground running.

You basically copied my post. haha.

let's give everyone a clean slate and the benefit of the doubt this coming season until they show they don't deserve it.

High horse ? Current wave of Lucas optimism ? Ha. Why is it always you riding to the rescue on your white horse ?

I have always held the viewpoint that Lucas needs to be given time, whether he succeeds or not will remain to be seen, he could just as easily fail or turn out to be nothing but average. You can check my posts since he arrived and you will find the same thing - doubts yes, but still I have always felt him unreasonably singled out and abused - and I have defended both him as a player and my position on him.

And in case you hadn't noticed this is a forum for debate. Ankareds has his opinion and I railed against it. I did not abuse him and I outlined why I thought Lucas was not worthy of his derision.

If you want to debate Lucas fair enough but shut the fuck up thinking you are God's given forum arbitrator.

heh ok. I was in a shitty mood earlier.

Lucas has gotten a lot of stick where its been ott but for me this wasnt such a case.
I like Degen if it helps start a movement.

Then something positive has come out of this then. Degen will triumph and when he does... 🙂

I predict that this present kind and sympathetic feeling towards Lucas and Co, will last about 25mins into our 1st game.

Lol. Yeah. Bot Lucas and Degen are hopeless footballers.

Its just "new season syndrome" mate.

All the goodwill will soon disappear once a few passes go into row Z.
Ah that I don't know but I would guess sometime before the Spurs match.

Stu where's your avatar from?

I must say that unlike Lucas, Degen has a website that makes him look like a cunt, and he puts too much gel in his hair too.

I believe it's from a Spanish advert where he's advertising a hair salon. The dog school advert was the best though.
