Alberto Aquilani has admitted to Italian newspapers that Liverpool staff discuss the possibility of Rafa Benitez going to Juventus.

“Benitez has not asked me anything about Italy or Serie A, but we do often discuss these issues with members of his staff,†the midfielders told Tuttosport.

“In my view Benitez is a great Coach and he would be very successful in Italy too.â€

Juventus have been linked with the Spaniard for several months and there were even reports he could quit Liverpool early to take charge when Ciro Ferrara was sacked.

Current boss Alberto Zaccheroni has failed to turn the tide, as the team dropped to seventh place following a 3-0 defeat at Udinese.

Either way, it's not for Aquilani to comment on the reported Juventus interest and divulge what's going on behind the scenes.

It continues to surprise me (though perhaps it shouldn't by now) how many players are naive enough to suppose they won't be found out in the UK if they give quotes to the media in their home countries.

I think Rafa has implied that Alberto isn't actually injured and that in part he's responsible for our dismal season. Releasing these quotes only serves to undermine the manager, IMO.
