Aquilani isn't joining Milan, bet that

Aquilani's talent is not an issue. The problem is, as it always was, his attitude and commitment in competitive match play (as opposed to friendlies or training), which is probably why the King's words above are pretty lukewarm.

Agreed.

And in any case, Kenny is not likely to come out and say 'oh fucking hell we're gonna be stuck with that loser again' is he? Not really the best way to attract potential buyers, and it appears that is difficult enough!!

If he rated him that highly, and if the player wanted to stay that badly, he would have been here this season.

That's a terrible argument. Alberto was clearly not in Kenny's plans and he's vying for a place in the national team, of course he's gonna leave. How much did Cole play when Kenny took over?

It's not a "terrible argument" at all. Out-of-favour players can play themselves back into favour, especially when (a) they're as talented as Aquilani undoubtedly is and (b) when their team isn't exactly pulling up trees without them.

No offence but that is something that can be applied to players like Spearing.
A foreign player of Aquilani's stature being told to leave and doesn't, not gonna happen.

Tell it to Man.City. If they win the title after all it'll be because Tevez came back, temporarily or otherwise.

Yes, maybe if you choose that one line in isolation.

The point I was making, which you have also now kinda backed up, is that Kenny clearly was not keen on having Aquilani here, so no matter what nice things he might say about him now, it seems very fucking unlikely that he will suddenly want him here in the future.

The same as every single other coach in the World does not seem to want him. I know you like to ignore that little fact, but its true isn't it? If he is so good, why will no club in World football seem to see it?

Maybe it wouldn't be the end of the world if Kenny was forced to keep Aquilani seeing as he as the midfielder he was so keen on that he drove up to Blackpool to get him is not very good.

Its all relative. If he comes back we will sell or ship him out. Kenny doesnt want him. Kenny prefers Adam and Henderson.
So why keep going over this shit.
Unless Kenny leaves (which he wont) we wont be keeping Aquilani so what.evs.

Yes, whatever anyone thinks of him that does kind of sum it up

You can't really polish a turd. Aquilani hasn't been able to impress Managers or stay fit.

He isn't an asset the club can realise either on the pitch or financially.

Any fee we might get may well be the best we can do to end this saga.

Didn't we only pay about £12 mill.for him? The rest was the balance of the Crouch fee which they still owed us.

How we paid for him isn't relevant to the size of the fee. The total impact on the balance sheet is still £17.5m (or whatever), whether that's through cancellation of an asset (money owed on crouch), cash paid from bank, or liabilities created for future instalments.

Indeed. I was about to say the same thing, just in a much less savvy, acountant-y way.

That's right, but I don't think it's relevant. Neil's point as I understand it is that we'll get more than £12 mill.for him. I'm less confident than Neil on the subject, but it certainly isn't obvious that we won't.

What? Why would you assume that? Hardly anyone thinks of the Johnson transfer in terms of the money due on Crouch, so why would you think Neil, who's hardly Mr Finance, would be referring to that?

In the case of Johnson, for me it comes down to purely to whether we need the money right now to spend on other players. He is a good player, and I am happy to see us keep him, but ultimately having Glen Johnson at right back is not going to be the difference between us challenging for the title and not.

If we can buy players in other positions whilst still keeping him then great. If we have to sacrifice him for the sake of filling other priorities then so be it.

Did Aqua make the preliminary 32 man Euro squad for the Italians?

Aqualini would have made all the difference this year in midfield with loads of his trademark crunching tackles
