All-star game?

Instead of the community shield game, have the league winners versus a combined XI from the rest of the league.

Do you know I was gonna mention this. I think you could have a bit more excitement than the charity shield.. maybe not the league winners v combined X1 but something to replace that might work

The charity shield is the charity shield. Is and always has been between league winners and fa Cup winners. We don't need some stupid yank who's been in the game for 2 months telling us how we can improve the game to make more money. Give an inch to this cunt now and he'll be pushing for the European super league again. Please never entertain anything That this bellend ever suggests as it will never be for the good of the game but for what he can make out of it

You sound like the sort of person that still refuses to call Snickers anything other than Marathon.

YEAH! Don't let this stupid yank, and his money grabbing tendencies destroy the pure maidenhead of the beautiful game!

Once gone, we'll never get it back. I shudder to even think about it.

Anyone else excited for the world cup this summer?

I'm just saying the charity shield is a bit shot and anything to replace it would be cool

Not sure about "anything" but I agree it's worth looking at. Keeping on doing something just "because we've always done it that way" is for hamsters in wheels.

I don't see anything particularly wrong with it personally. You know as a charity thing. I mean sure....The concept is spitting on the 'very foundations that made football so unique in It's traditions'! That is something that the talking heads will spout when a microphone in thrust in front of them.. It definitely is..... The powers that be have long since given up on that rather quaint view. Opting instead for a trade off... An age old trade off.. Tradition for cash. After all, look where the fucking World Cup is? It's all a joke really. If it happened (Which it won't) ...BUT if it dId I'd probably laugh and watch it while preparing for the hypocritical hubris that will issue in swathes of froth from the mouths of people who are seemingly 'informed'.

I kind of want it to happen now. It'll be fun 😗😉

Hamsters, you say?

I think the league winner versus an all-star combined 11 would be a funner watch than the community shield. All proceeds to charity.

I don't mind the idea overall but Klopp is quite right when he questions where it fits into the calendar.

As a kid, used to love all the Allstar matches in North American sport. As an adult, can't be bothered with a meaningless exhibition unless I just happen to be home and bored.

Boehly isn't wrong about the money-spinning potential as well as the ability to interest younger kids, IMO.

A big cultural shift for European/English football, but all the players are mates nowadays anyway. Not like 25 years ago when they couldn't stand their opponents.

I actually thought about that - at first it sounds more appealing than “North vs South,” but then I remembered that throwing players from various teams into one franken-team will simply result in featureless, lowest-common-denominator football, like national teams but worse. And let's the the franken-team beats the champions – are their players plucked from all other teams supposed to feel pride in that? Would fans of their respective clubs care? It all just seems so alien...

We have two weeks off for the funeral stuff added to the world Cup stuff
There's gonnna be a congestion at the end of the season and there'll be lots of complaining later this season

The concept completely misses the point that football is about fan loyalty and rivalry. Take the club identity out of a match and you completely lose the main ingredient. Can you imagine supporting a team that included mancs and blues?

Hasenhüttl's dry Austrian "the picture is sufficiently colorful."

That's how a disapproving art teacher makes a Hitler.

Sure but it wouldn’t be about supporting a team. It’s an exhibition match. Watching the best players in the league have a knock about together. I don’t see what’s wrong with it tbh given all the other meaningless shite games that go on.

If all the players had to consume 6 pints of full strength beer before the game - I reckon this could be great fun.

The whole all star thing is bit of a joke.

However, the relegation tournament thing is actually not a bad idea.

I'm pretty sure they do it in Germany and possibly France.

In the Championship you have 1st & 2nd being promoted - and the remaining few teams play in a playoff tournament for the last spot ... can't see couldnt work with relegation.

That’s called international football. Why the fuck would you want Kane/Sterling/Stones/etc to do well at any time?

I am pretty sure that when the play offs were first introduced (in the 90s?) they were made up of the three teams just below the automatic promotion spots in the lower division and one team just above the automatic relegation spots in the higher division. I always thought that was a great idea, but they abandoned it

But, as I said, football is all about the fans & the rivalry. A match with no partisan support is an academic exercise with no more meaning than a Youtube compilation of the best players in the league.

When I was a student the college 2nd Rugby XV, whose hooker was yours truly, arranged a match with a difference against the University Welsh Society, the difference being the barrels of beer at the side of the pitch whose contents were liberally sampled at the end of each of the four quarters into which the match was divided.

For info if Jurgen4 sees this, we hammered the Welsh that day. Whether it was because we held our drink better or because they were just sh!te, we never knew.

Presumably to beat the French or the Germans. But to root for them against another club team - what’s the point?
