Like a mad woman's piss today, all over the place and guilty of letting them in too many times, which on another day would have been punished by a better side. Did some good work occasionally going forward, but then got caught for the last gasp chance, too high up the pitch and allowing Blackburn to break straight past him.

I know he's supposed to be our defensive saviour like, so maybe he was just having an off day. He looked almost as bad as that other bloke, the 'hapless' one who singlehandedly made our defence look a shambles. Oh.

skrtel's positioning is crap and I'm glad he's out of the team. hooray!!!
[/quote]

Yes, things are so much better now.

Let's play a game, what defensive pairing has a lower 'goals conceded average':

Skrtel/Carra
Agger/Carra

Enough said.

Oh right, there was me thinking I just saw Agger by passed on the edge of 'their' box which almost led to a last gasp winner for Blackburn. How's that for shite positioning? He was all over the place Neil, once again defensive woes from an unstable back four.

LTW, shall we just be selective and do that for this season then? Or for last too, the one where we nearly won the league with Skrtel as an ever present?

I know he's got mistakes in him, and so has Agger, they're young defenders, I think that's the point. Oh and that Agger isn't the fucking golden boy the usual three posters would have us believe.

Agger barely played last year - had he played, we could have done it and the stats would have been similar/better for the simple reason we had a better LB (sadly Insua has struggled this year) and a far more consistent Carra.

Fact is, Skrtel has been shit this year. Just like Kuyt has for the past 3 months. I'm just grateful Rafa can drop Skrtel (Carra does look a wee bit more comfortable back there eh?) ... 1 out of 3 isn't bad.

Yeah fair enough, I've got no problem with that. I've just maintained that the problem with the back four is as a unit, since the introduction of Johnson and Insua, the centre backs aren't getting the cover they've had in the past, and it's left them exposed and made them look poor defensively, Carra and Skrtel have looked poor all season, and I thought Agger was equally poor today.

Try and see outside the box instead concentrating on Agger's attacking prowess.

Sorry Mark but can't agree with this. Blackburn didn't offer much except on the break. It seems to me Insua had orders to hold back in this game whenever Agger strode forward and with Carra at the back and Masher dominant in midfield just how many defenders do we need against a sole attacker ?

I thought Agger had an excellent game and the way he brought the ball out of defensive and disrupted their formation was exactly what we needed at times.

to be honest I was paying little attention to agger I was far more concerned with the fact every single creative spark we have has died an utter and horrible death. no one wants to take anyone on.
square, sqaure, back, back, sqaure, squre. take some FUCKING responsibility for fucks sakes. I'm ashamed to admit it but my mind is alrady turning towards the world cup because liverpool are currently boring me to tears.

Too much caution has crept in to our play because of the way things have been, maybe it's a good foundation given our defensive woes, but we need to be bolder, and the sub of El Zhar, aside from the odd spark of pace here and there was shite. We've got a £20m midfielder itching to get a game. It's ridiculous.

I wont complain about rafa's aqua treatment as I have no idea of his fitness.

Ok, fair enough. But if that's the case and we're not getting the full story, what's he on the bench for? The possibility of us going 4-0 up and then throwing him in? I understand the caution because of our predicament and games being tight, etc, but sooner or later Rafa has to show some balls and throw caution to the wind. If he's on the bench he should be fit enough to play a significant substitute role, or he just shouldn't be there at all.

A kid from France who'd probably fetch less than a million if sold, and who's barely lit up the reserve league, or a £20m International who needs match fitness? It's a no brainer. You'd rather have a half fit Masher/Kuyt/Gerrard/Torres/Yossi ahead of him, so what's the difference?

Why are we moaning about the defence. Essentially they did their job didn't they?
Plenty of things to complain about - terribly weak midfield, laughable options up front - but if we keep a clean sheet then the defence, no matter how they did it, have done ok.

Exactly, everyone seems to be in denial of our real problem, without Torres we can't score goals

Has Torres been out more this season than last?

We were scoring goals for fun last season without him, so I don't believe the later part of that statement is accurate. We can operate successfully without Torres, we've proved it. We've never proved we can operate without Xabi Alonso, because, well, we can't.

Slight disclaimer: I did really want a striker in the summer.

Well, when I said we were very lucky to be where we were last season everyone said I was wrong.
It now looks like I was right all along.
He who laughs last laughs fucking longest - only this is not funny.
Anyone that really can't accept that to cobble up a forward line from N'gog, Babel, Kuyt and Voronin and expect to maintain any sort of challenge really does know fuck all about football.
I don't think any of that four would be any sort of choice for any premiership club, with the possible exception of Kuyt, and he has reverted to form the last few weeks.

I don't think that getting the best out of Kuyt and Yossi season is a matter of "luck", but yeah, our forward line does need improving - it's pretty clear.

Vlad, the football we played last season during and after the Real tie was in no way down to luck. It follows that our final position in the league wasn't either.

That said, I do agree we are threadbare up front, though I remain unconvinced that this was Rafa's free choice as opposed to the owners pulling the rug out from under the transfer kitty.

I think I'm right in saying that our last 3 games have seen 3 clean sheets. So, now we have sorted out our problems at the back, no doubt we will start looking at what the fuck is going wrong up front.

Agger gives a balance as he is left footed and frankly Skrtel and Carra are not as good combo at the moment.

We are now a one man team. No Torres = impotent. Even Gerrard (possibly not 100%) can't pull us through. Add to this the fact that we were close to unplayable with a fit Torres last year. So far this year he has averaged 1 goal per game. Our last 3 games we have kept clean sheets. So they could have all been 1-0 victories if he was fit.

And yes I am pissed and rambling.
