Liverpool boss Kenny Dalglish today confirmed Daniel Agger will miss the rest of season with a knee injury.

Agger limped out of the Reds' clash at West Bromwich Albion at the weekend and has been ruled out of action for at least two months.

Glen Johnson also faces a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a hamstring injury at the Hawthorns, while the Reds are still waiting to discover the extent of the problem which forced captain Steven Gerrard to miss Saturday's game.

Dalglish told Liverpoolfc.tv: "Daniel has a problem with the tendon behind his knee and won't be involved again this season.

"He'll be out for a couple of months before he can start training.

"Glen Johnson has a hamstring problem which is usually about three or four weeks and it's the same for Martin Kelly.

"We will know about Steven at the end of the week. He will be assessed and we'll see what the story is.

"It's disappointing for the players because they want to play in every game. We're getting towards the end of the season but if you're injured you're injured.

"We feel for them but the most important people at the football club are the ones who are fit and able to play. We have to get on with what we've got.

"Fabio Aurelio and Jonjo Shelvey are training again and David Ngog had a game for the reserves on Monday. So we've lost some but we've got a few back."

Just seen this and was about to post it myself. It was only last week I was banging on about how good Agger is and hope he stays fit.

Even if Gerrard is fit I wouldn't bother playing him.
Let him rest up, get the problem completely sorted and then come back for pre-season ready to rock and/or roll.

Agger's a solid centreback but if we could sell him and put the funds towards a more reliable (heck, that should read available) centreback who can play the ball on the ground, we should do it without a moment's hesitation. I've run out of patience with him and his litany of injuries. We should be replacing our starting pair of centrebacks within the next 3 transfer windows, starting with him.

Bloody useless to us if he can only play 5 games every 2 months.

I said in January that if he went the rest of the season without getting seriously injured then we should keep him for another year, but it's just a waste of time.

If we need to raise some funds, Agger should be seriously considered for the exit list. Pity.

As much as I love Agger I have to agree with this. We need class at the back on a consistent basis, not flashes of it every now and then.

the season is pretty much over, there is no need to rush anyone back.
The problem with the Dane is that (I think) we've been taking our time to get him back but he keeps rushing back to the treatment room.

If he had shit hair and kicked Asians, he'd be Jonathan Woodgate.

Are starting back four is now gonna be likely

Carra---Soto--Skrtel---Wilson

for the next few games 🙁

Yup, I agree with this too unfortunately ...

For the reason of the season, I'd go with

Flangan Carra Skrtel GlenJo

wilson should either be used as a centre back or sold, he is worse than insua in that (LB) position.

It's not his fault though when he's played at LB and doesn't cut it - he should be judged on his ability at CB and it's Kenny, Clarke and Sammy who need to bear the responsibility for continuing to play him there. I know Robinson is still young and maybe he isn't ready yet, but at times like this, I'd rather we exposed the youngster and gave him a platform to show his ability and we could suss him out, rather than kept playing a veteran (e.g. Carra on the right instead of Flanagan) - or worse still, another youngster like Wilson - out of position.

We have to cut our losses with Agger this summer, I feel. He just can't be relied upon.
That's a tough call which I wouldn't make but its probably the right one, to be honest.

There's always the nagging voice of what might have been but that doesn't win games. I think he needs to play in Spain or Italy - where the weather is warmer. I know he's Danish and doesn't exactly come from a heat centre but I reckon the weather is as big a problem as his own body. Look at Kewell since he headed over to Turkey - he's played more in 2 seasons than in all his time with us. Owen was the same when he went to Madrid - coming off the bench should have seen more injuries but he looked like an iron man over there - came back to Newcastle and never got out of the treatment room.

Agger would be a shame cause he makes us look better when he's playing well but I think you're right. Still, better you than me to make the call.

Agreed Wiz. I think he's proven by now that despite how good he can be, he can't be relied upon so it's pointless. We need a settled backfour that we know will be available more often than not.

I don't really want to see Wilson or Soto near the team again this season. I'm not giving up on Wilson, but he doesn't look ready, he looks out of his depth. Soto is just a liability.

He's averaged less than 16 league games a year for us since he arrived. Firstly, I expect he's being significantly rewarded for that, which means it isn't cost effective. More importantly (from a footballing point of view) however, it means the central defensive partnership, arguably the most important on the pitch, is disrupted far too frequently.

As much as I like him, and as much as he improves the team when he's fit, he's a liability.

Glenjo is out for a month as well. Not looking good for the next month.

On the plus side, it doesn't really matter since we have very little chance of getting into Europe anyways.

As someone else said, we're just playing for pride now (although there isn't much of that left in truth)... roll on the summer.

Agger is a fucking liability, I agree with Spider, he is cheeky twat too, if he has a couple of games on the bench he starts whining.

regards

I love Agger, but as soon as I heard we'd made a second change on Saturday, I knew it was him and I was ever-so-slightly fucked off.

I reckon it's time he got himself one one those shows about tattooing on the Discovery Channel, because footie ain't the game for him.

I'd watch 'Copenhagen Ink'.

This. I'm getting fed up of sick note Agger now. Good player but never fit so pointless.

To be fair he played against West Brom injured. You did notice that his knee was tightly bandaged during the game.
So he just aggravated an injury.
I still rate him and I hope he can start the next season injury free.....
with Cahill next to him.

We say that every year.

Time to show him the door.

So that we're left with Skrtel, Carra and the Greek. Fuck no. I'd rather have a one legged Agger on the pitch.

Agger has the most bizzarre injuries. His legs will probably fall off during a game next season.
