Pep, when asked how far ahead Liverpool were:

22 points clear at the top of the table – no English club has held such a lead in the top division.

Need to win 6 more games out of the remaining 13. Less than 1 in every 2 games needed to be won from now on. Kam on you reds. Be relentless. Mentality monsters!

7 points between 5th placed Spurs and the 14th placed team Crystal Palace. It's mad.

Is it though? It's not hard for me to wrap my head around the way the battle for 4th is going, for instance. Scraping it that way was meant to be a success for us, for over a decade.

I'm not sure, but I don't think I've ever seen the gap between 14th and 5th being so small after 25 games.

Yeah the league is bollocks this year, that's why ...checks notes.... We only have 7 teams qualified for the last stages of European competions this season and ...checks notes again... The two favourites for the CL are English, and even the shite we have in the Europa are 3 of the top 6 favourite sides to win that.

Qualifying for the next stage in Europe isn't a good way gage how good the premiership is imo. Fucking Malmö FF from Sweden also made it from the group stage in the Europa League.

For me the Champions League starts now.
I don't rate the Europa League at all.

There's an argument that the league is very strong as everyone is beating everyone - i.e. apart from one exception, its fairly even & incredibly competitive.

If there wasn't one outlier, sitting 22 points above everyone else, this would be proclaimed a very exciting and unpredictable season, with City & Leicester locked in a titanic battle for the tile and 7 other teams with a viable chance to grab a CL spot behind them.

The league isn't weak, the reds are fucking awesome. Is all.

If we took a point for every match preceded by a poster on here saying "I'd take a draw now if offered", we would still be top of the league by 10 points.

If we win the next three, I'd take 10 draws offered in advance. Let us concentrate on winning the CL.

How about English teams being all four finalists in the CL & EL last year ? Is that a better way to judge it ?

I think it's a bit of both. Spurs, Utd and Arsenal are much weaker than you might expect, but then Leicester, Sheff Utd and Wolves are way better than the normal top 10 also rans.

It's defo not a weak league overall though.

Yeah, how can this league be "weak"? We've just beaten the best Europe had to offer, and been in the final the year before. City and Spurs both progressed deep into the competition (by their standards anyway). This is a league with the best managers and the most money, and lots of the top players in the world.

It's fair enough to say that certain teams, like United, Chelsea and Arsenal are struggling a bit more than usual (well, not United, them struggling is not unusual), but that's about all, if anything they are struggling partly because the rest of the league is much stronger, cf Wolves, Leicester, Sheffield United.

As has been said, the only real outlier in the league is Liverpool. And we've beaten everyone, in this league and out of it.

Average points after 25 games over the past five seasons:

2nd place- 52
3rd place- 50

This season...

City- 51
Leicester- 49

Just the one boss team on top eh.

This league season is a bit strange compared to other seasons. We're in match week 25 and the teams between 4th place and 6th aren't even close to averaging 2 points per game!
25 games played and Chelsea has 41 points, Sheff U 36, Man U 35.
I think it's unprecedented.
Seriously the 5th placed team in the premier league has 36 points, that's not even 1.5 points per game.
We're fucking killing it don't get me wrong, but I have to say, the Premier League teams bar us, Man C and maybe Leicester are fucking crap this season.

My claim had nothing to do with the top three. So what did you prove? Go look at teams at 4th and below in the same matchweek.
