It's gonna be Mane v Salah in the final. That's the draw and they both look favourites in their half of it. Loads more games

Bar Milner, we don't have a team of particularly good penalty takers, do we? Mane just missed 2 in a row, Bobby missed badly at Copa America, Salah scored a few big ones, but they were all hit with power down the middle – that's not sustainable. Hendo is alright, probably, and I think Trent has the potential to be a really good one. But it would be good to add someone super-clinical.

Yep, should be Trent. No other player bar Milner is a better striker of the ball than him in our team. Problem is ego's, Salah is going to claim them, like he had already tried to do.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

Is he going to come on just for a penalty?

Don’t ask me mate. I think it was a stupid idea in the first place. But all those concerts has taken it's toll so I try to sympathize with others going around and ask "what?" all the time....

VVD???

Good sooner he starts his break the sooner he gets back

FWIW, he's been shite today. Just plenty of brainless kick and running. Does make me realise that he can be quite one dimensional at times, and in a system other than ours, without a selfless false 9,and the workman-like midfield, he wouldn't be half as effective.

Mane, on the other hand, can play in more systems. A better all round player, in my opinion.

Salah officially out! Naturally there were some tears (they're the host nation).

But heh.. go put your feet up Mo, it's crazy he's still playing last season when pre-season for this season has started already.

My boys (Nigeria) face South Africa, who were great today.

I also enjoyed watching South Africa. They played some really lovely pass-and-move stuff, quick and incisive – I think they are objectively a much better team than Egypt, but were somehow too timid to really take advantage of their superior speed and creativity. If they start playing with more confidence, look out!

btw @ibromurph , just watched the highlights ... Mo did set up Trezguet with two really good chances ... If he had the real Trezguet, they'd have won that

I remember one chance he created for him. But regardless, his general play was just awful. Maybe he just didn't trust his teammates and so was trying to do too much.

I also think in the Afcon, where we have a load of athletes, Salah isn't that much faster than most players, if at all. So his most effective weapon is generally nullified.

Yeah, I think they are going to cause Nigeria a lot of problems on the counter.

They also appear to be very organised defensively.

That last bit about pace and athleticism is spot on.

[article]South Africa head coach Stuart Baxter has spoken out on how they stopped Mohamed Salah last night.

The Bafana Bafana sent Salah’s Egypt home with a 1-0 victory in the AFCON last-16 knockout round.

“The are two or three things we had to do, press higher up the field and stop the delivery,” Baxter said.

”If we couldn’t stop that, we had to screen in front of [Salah] and when he got the ball, get some support quickly to him and make sure he runs into a lot of traffic and not into free space.”

“The players did really well. Salah is an unbelievable player. We knew if he got the goals, we could be going back to Johannesburg, but they did very well and he didn’t.”[/article]

Sad for Mo. Someone lend him @Barba Roja 's season review DVD - remind him that we bossed Europe and need to come back for revenge in the PL. Get him fired the fuck up for 9th August.

I hope Salah gets his feet up as soon as possible, gets time off with his family and comes back to training rested. Which will mean no Salah or Mane for the first 3-4 games.

Without one more striker/“winger” I think we can’t take that luxury

The AFCON is a fucking pain in the hole.

Haha if Senegal make the final they'll be playing on the 19th so with two weeks rest for Mane, he'll be back maybe in mid August. I don't see him paying in the community shield.
