No way was Spearing the main culprit for the first goal. Enrique got done like a kipper and Reina was beaten on his near post. Both were far more at fault..

Agree with that entirely; Spearing made the first mistake in both goals but but Enrique should have intercepted that ball for the first. He started to then hesitated which is the primary sin and paid the price.

Skrtel should have been closer for the first though the shot was a little "lucky" to go through his legs.

That said there's no way it it's revisionist Jules to say there was a gulf in class between Lucas and Spearo years ago. One looked ferocious, aggressive and terrier like; the other kept taking the ball from the opposition with interceptions, laying it off with first time passing and excellent touch.

As has already been said, passion and hunger can take you only so far. Their effectiveness was probably similar a few years ago but the class and future of one was always clear IMO while the other had pretty much reached their level and was never going to improve.

442 is my favorite formation, wish we played it more regularly. Need a decent wide man for the right with gerrard and lucas in the middle. Not bad!

it's actually pretty crazy that for yrs now we've struggled to put out a team that can play 4-4-2 . Even when we had Alonso and Mascherano we used to play with gerrard in there also . We've never had a midfield 2 combo we felt could do both the defensive side of things and the attacking , we've only ever had a good balance with 3 in there .

Now that we are 2 days after defeat. Surprisingly there is no bitterness but a strange calm and acceptance. Maybe we have been conditioned into mediocrity? *shrugs shoulders and walk away*

With hindsight, I accept that as a better summary than I gave in response to neil. I say "with hindsight" because I don't think the difference in class *was* clear to many of us then, but in retrospect it was you and those few who agreed with you who were right about Lucas.

No - the unrelenting pressure on Liverpool managers to do well tells a different story. I think it's more a question of knowing that we aren't good enough *yet*.

I was referring to myself in the calmness and acceptance of events. Any how, that last match actually gave me hope for a better season next year. Hopefully it does not flatter to deceive.
