RIP Jonah Lomu

R.I.P. That's fucked up, he was a month older than me.

One of my favourite sporting memories is a 20 year old Lomu rinsing two English defenders and then just fucking ploughing through Mike Catt at the 1995 World Cup.

And I say that as an Englishman

I can't believe he was only 4 years older than me. In my head when he first started playing he was much older.

Rest in peace, big man.

Really sad news. Amazing player, and by all accounts, a thoroughly decent bloke.

Yeah, same with me. We were the same age but he always seemed older.

That's probably because at age 20 he was lighting up international sport whereas I was smoking buckets after the pub and sleep-urinating on my bedroom carpet.

That reminds me of the time I woke up to the noise of my brother pissing in his shoe.

The next day he asked me "did I spill water last night?"

My mates dad would quite often get hammered at the snooker club and at some stage during the night piss in the fridge.

We were close mates from age 9 to 21 and in all those years I never has a cup of tea at his

Legend is a word many of throw around far too easily ... but this guy changed the game ...

It's easy to say that, and it's rare that it's true. But it is in Lomu's case.

Rugby became pro in 1995, although really it took years to get to grips with it. Lomu set the standard for the level everyone else needed to reach.

That 1995 World Cup performance at age 20 with 2 caps behind him was out of this world. It's the only thing anyone not from SA remembers. And then it's even more impressive when you realise he grew up playing 8.

That try against England was just the perfect illustration of his blend outstanding physicality and his excellent technique.

Just an amazing player, must watch stuff and I'm glad I got to see him in person.

RIP Jonah, fucking brilliant player. Don't think I've ever seen anything comparable to him when he was on form.

I remember that '95 World Cup so clearly because of Lomu. Before the England game there was genuine debate about how to tackle the guy. His legs were like tree trunks! Sure enough he basically ran over Tony Underwood in the semi final. He was simply unstoppable. A quick check on Wikipedia says the UK voted it #19 out of 100 in top sporting moments. It was pretty special as was the guy himself.

RIP the big fella. He seemed a nice guy off the field too. That's no age to go out on.

Yeah he was a gentleman, I met him at a do here in Dubai few years back.... Half the man he used to be, knew he was on borrowed time.
