Gerrard sacked?

You don't push on to challenge for European football anytime soon from the position and football Villa were in when Gerrard took over, a whole one season ago. Villa fans are deluded and more than a bit vindictive. Good luck to whoever takes over there ,they will need it. Villa will be in this year's relegation battle up to their necks .

This shit decision have costed Gerrard his job. If they can't even make a proper decision after multiple slow-mo viewings of an offence, then what's the bloody point?

And Klopp is the one facing disciplinary actions for telling the refs they are shit.

Did it?
Really?

He would have been fired anyway. At max, he would have lasted an extra week or two.

He was a great player for us and one of the most inspirational players I have seen wearing a red shirt. A proper legend. But let us be honest, we can blame the players, we can blame the referees, but he did a shit job as a manager of Villa.

I get that, but he could have done the sacking at his own time, without a helping hand from the refs.

It's an atrocious decision. And that Mitrovic fella should be banned for play acting.

As of now, everybody that shouldn't have been impacted, Gerrard, Villa, the fella who got sent off, were punished. Meanwhile the officials and Mitrovic just move on without consequences.

The ref even watched it back. It's incompetence at it's highest level.

Surprised he was interested, TBH, but yeah strong move for Villa.

The managerial talent now in the PL is pretty ridiculous.

I'm more sceptical than you guys above. He's done very well in Spain but not abroad, incl.a pretty uninspiring spell at the Arse. Jury's well out AFAIC.

I actually think Emery didn't do too badly at Arsenal. His progress from Almeria to Valencia first caught my eye. Then his achievements at Sevilla were obviously admirable too. There were several mitigating factors + glimpse of positivity along the way.

He's pretty good at developing players. In the current Villarreal team, the likes of Pino, Jackson and Baena were given their debut by Emery. "Aston Villa’s academy is thriving – only Big Six have more England youth players" - this has got to be a bonus for him. Maybe the "lower" expectations at Aston Villa will enable him to achieve more success in English football.

Not an easy start though:
Man Utd (H)
Brighton (A)
Liverpool (H)
Tottenham (A)
Wolves (H)

Aston Villa: Why Unai Emery has returned to Premier League
[article]Emery could have returned last November when he received an offer from Newcastle United following the departure of Steve Bruce, although at that point he was involved in a Champions League campaign with Villarreal which eventually took them to the semi-finals, where they were beaten by Liverpool.

The Newcastle offer also came at a bad time because being settled at Villarreal allowed him to spend a lot more time with his son - something he had been unable to do with all the travelling in his previous jobs - and he also felt secure and wanted at a club that were pushing in the right direction.

As well as taking Villarreal to the Champions League semi-final, Emery also led them to Europa League success in the 2020-21 season, beating Manchester United in the final.

Injuries and a lack of a certain something means that his current Villarreal side seem to have hit a bit of a wall and are in need of refreshing, especially if they are to go in the direction Emery wanted.[/article]

Linked with Besiktas - other candidates include Senol Gunes and Mircea Lucescu.

They appointed Valerien Ismael in Mar this year, after he was sacked by West Brom in Feb. They won once in the last 6 games, 4 pts behind leaders Fenerbahce, who have a game in hand. Finished 6th past season, 22 pts behind champions Trabzonspor. However, they did win the title 2 seasons ago in 20/21.

[article]New Aston Villa boss Unai Emery has sought to bring Pako Ayesteran back to English football.

Ayestaran has a wealth of experience and first arrived in the Premier League in 2004, where he assisted Rafa Benitez at Liverpool.

The pair worked together at Valencia, helping the club finish third in LaLiga before Ayestaran departed in 2010. Ayestaran left because he wished to become a manager in his own right, reports the Daily Mail.

The 59-year-old returned to Valencia in 2016, initially as Gary Neville's assistant and then as permanent boss when the former Manchester United defender was sacked.

Ayestaran was then dismissed in September 2016 after a run of poor results.

Emery's first game in charge is likely to be against Manchester United next weekend, as his work permit will not have been approved before the match at Newcastle on Saturday.[/article]
