January Window Speculation

I'm not against a competent DM, but that's hardly the silver bullet for all defensive ills that some of you imagine it to be. Still, if Can is going I would like to bring in another CM in addition to Keita, no question about that.

Not a silver bullet as such, no, but I do think that without more protection from midfield for the back four our defensive play will continue to let us down, even if we recruit well at CB. It doesn't have to be an out-and-out DM but it does have to be someone - in addition to Keita - whose defensive play, even if he brings other things to the table too, is good enough to mean we don't miss having a dedicated DM back there. That's why I'm so keen that we should sign Goretzka if we possibly can.

See we're being linked with the Serbian lad at Lazio. Not cheap at £50m plus but yes please. Midfield duo of him and Keita would be awesomd

We were linked Savic early in the Summer transfer window. Him and Keita would be something of a little and large. Yer man is 6'4".

I've done my fair share of Youtube scouting, but that's probably among the most confusing clip ever. And I actually like Danish players.

Express and Mirror both featuring stories of Aubameyang being up for grabs and we're willing to sell Sturridge to finance it.

If a deal for Aubameyang (who would be ideal for us IMHO) depends on getting a fee for Sturridge that would rule out Milan, who were said to be interested at one point, or any other Italian club for that matter. Those chiselling b******s will just want a free loan.

We should just put the phone down if we hear an Italian accent at the end of it during transfer season.

Aubameyang would be an awesome signing, I guess it signals the end is nigh with Coutinho - but what a statement that would be. Experienced winner in the ranks.

I'll be livid if we get to Feb 1st and having added a CB and some form of midfielder to the ranks.

Aubameyang-a-ding-dong!

Yes, please. Just so I can say that.

He has bad hair, though.

We'd also need to be 100% sure that AFCON isn't going to continue in mid season, as we would lose all of Aubamayang, Salah & Mane if that were the case.

The Total 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (also referred to as AFCON 2019 or CAN 2019) is scheduled to be the 32nd edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, the biennial international men's football championship of Africa organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF). The tournament is scheduled to be hosted by Cameroon.[3] The competition will be held in June and July 2019, as per the decision of the CAF Executive Committee on 20 July 2017 to move the Africa Cup of Nations from January/February to June/July for the first time. It will also be the first Africa Cup of Nations expanded from 16 to 24 teams.[4]
For the first time since the 1972 Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon will host the competition. They are also the title holders after winning the previous edition.

But we'd almost certainly win AFCON, which would give us a trophy the Mancs haven't won.

I don't think he's won much of note.

As good as Aubameyang is, he's 29(?) and definitely seems to have purple patches followed by shit ones

If Sturridge plus Coutinho leaves then we definitely need replacements AFTER we get a defender. If Sturridge goes we definitely need a striker - so lets get this guy from Dortmund if he is willing, and we need to replace Coutinho with another creative midfielder - my own preference would be Lucas Moura who would only cost 25M plus we would get more goals out of him.

So the inevitable question is raised on whether if Salah is sold should Liverpool target Griezmann. With a buy-out clause of £88m, which when you think about is quite reasonable in today's market, why a club like Barca, Real Madrid, Man Utd and Man City did not got for him?
