    Ericksson has cancer

Istanbul produced any number of unsung LFC heroes and Djimi was one of them. There were times in his Liverpool career when I could cheerfully have throttled the guy, but he made one amazingly brave and absolutely vital clearance off the line that night. History turns on moments like that.

Strongly agree. And yes, we know we've got a right job on. My previous absence royally stuffed one or two of my teams incl.the Skulls. Ah well.

    Wild thoughts (Klopp Talk)

Maybe, maybe not. If things don't go well for Nagelsmann and Jürgen gives the DFB any indication that he might be interested, things could yet change pretty quickly.

    Atalanta (A) - EL QF - Thursday 20:00 BST

IMO it's impossible to know if he really did go to shit, because he was one of a number of victims (Litmanen, Babbel and Ziege were others) of GH's excessive "one strike and you're out" approach. He had one nightmare game against ManU and GH lost faith in him there and then.

What is that Discord business? I haven't clicked on it as I haven't the foggiest notion of what it is or what it's supposed to do.

    Mac Allister

Super player, is the new Macca. Always rated him for Brighton and was chuffed to monkeys when we signed him. He seems to love being here too.

    Anthony Taylor

He's an Altrincham fan though, arguably more likely to be biased against rather than for the Manchester sides.

Pep Lijnders as the next Liverpool Manager

Sorry, Niall, but IMHO Lijnders' failure in his first go at management back in Holland is a solid reason to doubt his suitability for the LFC gig now. As for the LFC connection argument - well, in principle it's a fair one and the club have obv.relied heavily on it in the past, but its record...

Pep Lijnders as the next Liverpool Manager

The argument isn't so much that he needs to succeed at a big club first. It's that he's had a go at a clearly lower level and unfortunately didn't cut it, whereas the others who've been mentioned have proven up to the task and hence look a better bet to be able to take on the Liverpool job...

Pep Lijnders as the next Liverpool Manager

Agreed. There have been plenty of good coaches for whom stepping up to a manager's job turned out to be a step too far. I suspect Lijnders may be about to add to that number and for a variety of reasons it would be particularly sad to see it happen at Liverpool.

    Poll Who is 2nd choice?

I respectfully disagree, old pal. He's made it clear that he's off in the summer but he flopped as a manager when he tried it initially anyway, and at a much lower level than he'd have to cope with here. I know Ajax have set their cap at him but IMO that's as much a reflection of the mess...

    Poll Who is 2nd choice?

I was floating the possibility rather than making a definite analysis, but it does make sense to me. I'm afraid I don't think you're giving nearly enough weight to the magnitude of the shock that Klopp's departure will cause to the system, both individually and across the club as a whole.

    Poll Who is 2nd choice?

Or maybe Xabi doesn't fancy being Klopp's immediate replacement, so is sticking with Leverkusen rather than take a bigger job elsewhere to leave the way clear to take over from said replacement if that guy fails?

Best FWs to wear a Liverpool Shirt

Fowler's book offered some distinctly unconvincing excuses for the way he'd conducted himself at times, and there were rumours that it was matters off the field rather than on it which accounted for his small number of England caps. If he's matured since, well done him.

Best FWs to wear a Liverpool Shirt

The King had the best combo of talent and longevity, IMO of course. Suarez though gets my vote alongside yours for the greatest sheer talent I've ever seen or expect to see in a Liverpool shirt.

    WWIII Return of the Ruskie

A couple of quite well-known media commentators (Anatol Lieven, a British journo, and Sir Tony Brenton, former UK Ambassador to Moscow) have poured cold water in the last couple of days on the idea that Putin would seek a wider conflict. They were saying he knows that he'd lose and that his...

    Title Race

I do understand that view, but ultimately I can't share it. Maybe it's because I've followed the club from Shanks' time onwards and got used to the pressures which winning stuff can bring, but - despite the stress it can cause - I still want us to be in the running for the big prizes.

    VvD : GOAT

What I had in mind was (arguably) a category of Virgil and Alisson only, as the two foundational players without whom we couldn't have come this far. On balance, though, I think I agree that the skipper just about heads the list. After the discussions we all had during the barren years, I'm...

    VvD : GOAT

He's certainly a major element of it. Could one argue that Alisson belongs in that category too? Loved the way Virgil put that flat track bully Haaland back in his box last weekend.

Yes, it did. GH losing Bergues previously seemed to be a similar turning-point.
