Skysports.com understands a number of clubs are tracking Fulham ace Zoltan Gera.

Gera's future at Fulham could be in doubt following the arrival of new boss Mark Hughes with the Welshman expected to bring in new faces to put his own stamp on the side.

The 31-year-old has just a year to run on his current contract and talks over a new deal have yet to take place as yet, alerting a number of clubs to his possible availability.

Liverpool could be in the market for Gera with Roy Hodgson a big fan of the Hungarian and his versatility would appeal to the new Reds boss.

Sunderland are also thought to be interested in Gera with Black Cats chief Steve Bruce keen to bolster his squad before the close of the transfer window.

German side Werder Bremen are also thought to be monitoring Gera's situation following his stunning 12-minute hat-trick against the German club in Saturday's pre-season friendly between the two sides.

I think Gera is a very classy player, but I don't expect anybody else will agree with me! :🙂

I wanted us to sign him when WBA got relegated. He's a decent player.

But I don't want him now. Too old for me.

Almost exactly my view. Thought he was a very very good player, with some top quality attributes (a more consistent and dependable Smicer if you like). Would very much like us to have signed him when he left West Brom, and my concern now would be that the years and succession of injuries have caught up with him

He's a decent player, but we have players better than him, so it'd be a little bit pointless.

if it is true that hodgson is interested (a big IF) then it is very worrying as it seems to suggest that roy has not amended his list of potential transfer targets from a mediocre club with the aim of survival to that of a club which should be competing for the epl...let's hope it is lazy journalism.

Lazy journalism. We've got better players than Gera at his position.

Not sure where he would sit in our team but I have thought he is a class act from the 1st time he played in England.

The problem that we currently have is players good enough for Liverpool are out of our price range.

If funds are not used for a back up striker, I would rather push one of the promising youngsters e.g. Pacheco, Amoo, Ecclestone and Ince etc. They will improve and already have shown more ability than El Zhar.

Spot on. We need to give these players here and there, and not waste money on useless backup players who are only going to hinder the ressies development.

Agree in principle, buit's not an easy ask as they may not be ready to make the step up.

One reason N'gog got stick last year was because he was trying to fill Torres' shoes; we can't do that again.

I think the problem is that there's still too much of a gap between Torres and the kids so a good back-up striker is still needed, IMO.

Fully agree though that these kids MUST get more game time.

The stick N'gog got was totally unfair. Anyone filling in for a striker of Torres' quality is going to come up short. Eggnog was prematurely thrust into the first team which in the long run will prove the making of him. His physical development will add another dimension to his game.

Jovanovic can play as a striker. Kuyt was a prolific striker in Holland and could have been used as back-up but wasn't. Babel in all his time here hasn't had a good run as a striker. He has been poor on the left but he could do a job on the right. He looks much better and more comfortable on the right in the few cameos when he has played there. Roy may have decided to give him a run to establish himself and renew his confidence. There is some talent there but I'm not holding my breath.

It's difficult enough that we are almost immediately under pressure to produce winning results in our quest for CL football. Blooding the youngsters is going to take some monumental effort but winning games will make it easier.

People saying that expectation under Roy is not as high are delusional. This is Liverpool after all!
