The obvious choice

What do you guys think of Zidane as a coach? I heard he's won 9 out of 13 trophies that he was in the running for. Is he one of the greats?

He should go to port vale. See how he does without some of the worlds best players.

Plenty of managers failed with the same players. Pellegrini, Rafa, Mourinho to an extent... None won 3 CLs in a row, with any club no matter how rich, not even Pep with Messi, Xabi and Iniesta in their prime.

I bet PSG are regretting appointing Tuchel now. I'd like to see Zidane coach Bordeaux and/or Juve next. Definitely don't want him anywhere near the Premier League.

He seems to be a great cup manager and a decent league one.

I'd rather he be out of work for a bit

You'd think he was a shoe in for the France job. That said Deschamps would have to have a very poor WC to get fired.

It's an odd one. You can't argue with the trophies he's won - he's never not won the European Cup as manager, for instance. But then he's overseen a steady degrading of domestic form, which is probably one of the main reasons he's leaving. It's difficult to be an uber-tactical manager with the current Real Madrid squad, largely a group of individuals rather than anything approaching a team collective, because you are constricted by the egos of the players in terms of what they will and won't do. Zidane, in that respect, has been the perfect manager for them - he has a reputation as a player that is greater than almost all the players in the squad and so commanded instant respect in a way that I'm not sure any of the great coaches out there might do. He himself admits he's not that great at tactics, but then he's had the vision to see that isn't what was needed at the club.

That said, I think he's probably seen the writing on the wall for the current iteration of the team, which is a very strange thing to say about the current European Cup winners. It's a cunt of a club in many ways. Where else would two players threaten to leave minutes after winning the biggest club tournament in world football?

Yes, but would he want to coach a national team now? With a few exceptions, that's a comfy job for semi-retired managers.

Predictable... Spanish press claiming Klopp is #1 choice.

What goes in our favour is that Klopp doesn't want to manage a circus and club full of egos.

True, he might want to wait a few years. It would impress me if he took over a club like Bordeaux. With Ligue 1 gettng a new TV deal that is only surpassed by the Premier League, there might be some money to spend there as well.

He has shown that he can manage the egos in a talented squad to a create a great cup team which is what is needed for world up and euros. France have top quality talents coming through and have a decent shot at winning world cup and euros in the next 6-8 years. I think the current France squad is perfect for someone like Zidane.

If he waits another 10 years to become an international manager, there is no guarantee that the team he has will be as good.

Lots of paper talk about Real Madrid making Klopp their no1 target.

Have they ever not got the manager they want?

Hopefully he feels like we are unfinished business

Real tried to get Rafa a few times when he was coaching us so here's me thinking if a Madrid native can resist the overtures from Real to stay with us, what more a German who has plenty of unfinished business here.

If I was a Chelsea fan I would like to see Zidane take the helm.

This will be really funny if they did - coz I reckon he will fuck up big time. PL is not a two horse race, and they don't necessarily have the best players. I actually think he will get the sack within 6 months - cannot see him lasting here. As for Klopp being tempted - the chances should be slim to zero as I think he considers Real to be some sort of soap opera rather than a football club.

But he's won the CL 3 times on the trot, and the CL is not a 2 horse race.

Im pretty sure Wenger turned them down a few years back. That said Klopp at Madrid would seem as obviously destined to fail as Rafa.

Allegri, Sarri and Lowe are 3 standout candidates who may take the bait other than that, they probably look towards South America.

Let's say on the off chance Klopp goes for RM challenge? Who would we go for?

That new guy at Rangers.

Seriously hard to call, my preference if we lost Klopp would be Allegri, failing that Sarri or Tedesco would be much more realistic targets.

I think its important for the board to be consistent and continue to employ managers who have a simialr overall vision, otherwise you end up with alot of churn in playing staff from one manager to the next.
