Scout Facts:

NAME: Younes Belhanda
AGE: 22 (25th February 1990)
BORN: Avignon, France
POSITION: Winger
CLUB: Montpellier
FACTS: French-born but plays for Morocco

The scout reports...

Likened to former French ace Robert Pires, Montpellier's Younes Belhanda has emerged as one of the most skilful young midfielders in Europe, so we check on the Moroccan talent.

Belhanda began at his local club Aramonais before being snapped up by Avignon, and it was whilst under their coach Jean-Christophe Gleyze that the youngster emerged as a real talent.

At just 13 most of France wanted to sign him, including giants Lyon and Marseille - but he opted for St Etienne, before changing his mind and instead joining Montpellier to stay closer to home.

Belhanda unsurprisingly progressed well, but it was as a defensive midfielder that he excelled - captaining the club's Under 19s to cup success and becoming one of a number of the team to earn a professional deal.

However, as he was promoted to the Montpellier first team, new coach Rene Girard saw something in Belhanda, his willingness to take hold of the ball coupled with his brilliant technical skills, and converted him into an attacking role.

Not long after Girard took charge, Belhanda soon found himself a first-team regular in his new offensive role and he has never looked back, emerging as a supreme talent.

Now with nearly 100 games under his belt and already in double figures for goals, Belhanda is one of the main reasons behind Montpellier's resurgence in French football.

Late in 2010 he was also handed his first international call, but not by France as he shunned the place of his birth and instead plays for Morocco - where his family hails from.

Arsene Wenger confirmed his interest in recent times, and that has only heightened the interest in Belhanda.

Girard likened him to former Gunners ace Pires and it is easy to see the comparison with his skill and ability to work with both feet on either side of the pitch. If anything Belhanda appears more of an out-an-out winger, but Girard's reasoning is well founded.
The scout says...

Already one of the most highly-rated players in France and it is little surprise Arsenal are already hot on his trail.

With Barcelona and AC Milan also said to be keeping tabs on him, a move this summer cannot be ruled out.

‘The door is open for Younes to find a bigger club,’ said owner Louis Nicollin.

‘I don’t know where he’ll go yet but he wants to leave.

‘I want at least £8million for him.’

I don't want us to sign this guy.

Every time I look at his name I can't help but call him Bellendhandla.

Montpellier president Louis Nicollin claims Aston Villa have made a bid for Younes Belhanda.

The Moroccan playmaker is thought to be keen on a move to the Premier League but of the five clubs who have made bids, Villa remain the only side from England.

After winning the Ligue 1 title in 2012 Belhanda has enjoyed another impressive season in France, scoring 12 goals in 35 appearances for a Montpellier side who have struggled to replicate their heroics of last season - but the club have confirmed that this will be his last season at Montpellier.

"He is leaving," Nicollin told LeSport10. "There are four or five clubs that have come in. It is now down to the player to choose now because we are almost in agreement with the clubs. He will leave for 14-15 million euros."

Asked if the offers were concrete, he replied: "Yes. From AC Milan, Inter Milan, Atletico Madrid, Galatasaray and Aston Villa.

Belhanda had been set to leave the Ligue 1 side for some time now and Nicollin admitted that the 23-year-old can now choose his destination.

"We have no problem now, he [Belhanda] has the authority to agree with whoever he wants now," he added.

Younes Belhanda has reiterated his priority is to move to the Premier League after reports Aston Villa had made a bid.

"I am definitely aware that there are five clubs with serious interest in me," said Belhanda. "The president told me how much I will cost for any team that wants me.

"I have told everyone that England will be my first choice.

"Aston Villa is a great club with a big history playing in the best league in the world, so let's see what will happen."

Whenever I see Younes, I want to think Eunice. Eunice Kaboul, Eunice Belhanda.

Lewis Suarez?

It seems he's desperate to come to the premiership. He's actually considering villa. We should be all over this one ourself.
