Also, a tip of the cap to Nando for holding up and timing his run perfectly and his pace and finish was sublime to say the least.

Perfection.

I'll be sure to check back in this thread when the debate's in full flow.

Can't wait.

No mention of Kuyt nearly falling on his ass with no Manc within five yards of him before passing to Yossi???

Yeah that was strange. Although if you watch the build-up to the goal, Kuyt's contribution was pivotal.

Which was nice to see, cos I thought he had a shite game other than that.

His most important effort was in Nando's ear IMO.

Completely agree with the original post. It was a world class pass by Yossi and I'm really happy he's our player.

He frightened the living daylights out of me every time he got the ball during the Gerrard Final.

my thoughts exactly... up until Kuyt gave him an earful he was a spoilt little brat... after that he turned into a monster. Wonder what he said...

Kuyt's pass to Lucas in the build up to N'gog's goal was a beauty. It's demonstrative of the kind of skill that whoppers like Rage don't even know he has in the locker.

What about Lucas' run on that play, I love it that he has that much energy left in the 90+ minute and the Mancs could barely run!

One of Kuyt's key attributes is his mentality and the reason why Rafa fawns over him. Hardly spectacular, he gets about the park. Even when having a poor game you can count on him giving his all. Whatever he said to Nando woke him up and made a huge difference. Yossi's through was a gem. It had goal written all over it.

saw the best and worst of yossi.

his pass was world class but then his need to want an extra touch, especially when he should have shot was typically infuriating of him also.

he has matured as a player and has/is clearly wining rafa over. well done to him.

oh and sorry doctor mac but kuyt is once more going through an average period. we all know his strengths and appreciate them but yesterday he was mediocre yet again. once gerrard and aquaman are fit i'd like to see yossi on the right ahead of kuyt rather than benched, especially against teams that come to defend.

It is why he should be in the hole week in week out. Amazing ball and all in everytime he got the ball he hurt them by running at them drawing players and putting people in.

He played Kuyt in.

He crossed for Aurelio to miss from 5 yards.

He had a great great game in such a crunch match.

Kuyt was everywhere yesterday. His first touch and his decision making let him down, granted, but the amount of times he won flick ons and closed United down was brilliant, and his ball to Lucas for N'Gog's goal was a great piece of vision. Evra must hate playing against him.

DB, we played 4-4-2 yesterday.
Yossi played out wide right and Torres and Kuyt played up front.
Gerrard plays in the hole for us, so why do you keep advocating the use of Yossi there?

I must've missed it, when did Dirk give Nando an earful?
[/quote]

Sorry to be annoying but can anyone tell me when Dirk had a stern talk with Nando? I want to find it on the broadcast.

Oh and one other thing why can't that commentator pronounce Benayoun? He kept calling him Ben-yen-noon lol

yossi didn't play wide right although he did swap with kuyt who plays on the right of our 3
dirk didn't play upfront
we didn't play 442
yossi should play in the hole with gerrard in midfield next to masch. bar yesterday lucas has been at best ineffective there and as a team we would function better this way with the players that have been available.

Yes, Yossi and Kuyt did some interchanging but I stand by what I said.
Yossi was on the right for the majority and Kuyt played centrally.
Maybe it wasn't 4-4-2 in the strictest sense but what elese would you call it? 4-3-3?

Kuyt had a decent enough game. 7/10. Only because we won and he played a part in the 2nd goal.

Lets be honest, here, his woeful first touch when he was played clean through could have proved costly had United had scored first and when onto win the game. Also his poor technique and finishing was evident when he passed up the opportunity to shoot when Benayoun played him in under no pressure. (a similar position to where Torres scored).

For me, for all his wonderful workrate, it doesn't make up for his general lack of quality. I'd sooner prefer a more technical skillful wide man who didn't work as hard.

I think Kuyt's ability was highlighted in Nando's goal. When Kuyt recieved the ball, Nando was actually in a better more central position to run onto the ball (with Ferdinand on his heels flat footed). Because Kuyt took an extra touch to control the ball, Nando had to get back onside and bend his run (great intelligence) and it also allowed Ferdinand an extra second to get back in line. Fortunately for us, Kuyt did pass the ball promptly on to Benny, who had the abilty and class to time his pass (a much harder one than the one Kuyt would have had to have executed) and set Nando free for the 1st goal.

I agree with this. Yossi main position was on the right but he drifted in a lot, creating space for Kuyt and even Torres to take up. Torres going out there made Evra think more carefully about bombing down that flank and joining in with their attacks.

Dirk Kuyt doesn't have the greatest of control, but Evra usually has the measure of someone more silky on the ball....but he has struggled against Kuyt every time i have seen them face each other.

Kuyt is well worth his place in the team. He scores a shed load of goals and works his socks off.....i don't think there is a winger out there who gives us that. We should just focus on improving the left. We are weaker than when we had Riise and Kewell play there.

Aurelio has played some great games on the left, doing much more during the building of the attack than Riise ever could. Fabio can put a free kick or two into the top corner as well. Not that they are the same players, but Aurelio on form surpasses Riise in my mind and Kewell never played so we really don't know if anyone is better or worse than him......
