Yossi joins Chelsea

Liverpool have today completed the transfer of Yossi Benayoun to Chelsea Football Club.

The two clubs last month agreed an undisclosed fee for the player, who joined Liverpool from West Ham in 2007, and the deal has been confirmed this afternoon.

The 30-year-old Israeli international made 172 appearances and scored 37 goals during his three seasons with the Reds.

A Liverpool spokesman said: "Yossi's departure was agreed between the player and Rafael Benitez a number of weeks ago. Everybody at Liverpool FC wishes him well for the future."

Shame. A good player who did OK for us and wasn't used properly. I can't wish him well considering where he's gone, but I hope at least things don't go badly for him personally.

Farewell Yossi. Thanks for the goals against Fulham and Arsenal.

I won't wish you all the best though as I don't like Chelsea.

Once you leave them then maybe 😉

Time to revise my Yossi song I guess.

To the tune of Walking On The Moon by The Police

When Chelsea called he went their way
Yossi Benayoun
I don't know why, he'll hardly play
Yossi Benayoun
But I guess they just sold Joe Cole
That has left some room
For someone to play in the hole
Yossi yeah, Yossi Benayoun

Some, might say
He's just a squaddie anyway, he's okay
But he's no Steve Heighway, on his day
He might put a chance away, but some days
He won't even play

(Bow wow wow . . . dum doo doo)

Our new manager arrives and Benayoun leaves the following day for one of our rivals. Fuck him.

Precisely

Not making excuses for him but I think it was the way he was treated by our old manager that made his mind up to go.

The old manager left four weeks ago.

His mind was made up long before that Im afraid. Like I say Im not making excuses for him

I have to say I am quite disappointed by this whole affair.

The fact that we've sold him to one of our major rivals, the fact that we probably haven't got much money for him, the fact that whatever money we did get probably won't be enough to adequately replace him, the fact that he was one of most creative players, the fact that he's not given the new boss a chance and lastly the assumption that he's gone there because he'll get more games in a position he wants to play in.

It's all a bit shit really

Crucial point I would say

Yeah, but he's not really given the new gaffer a chance (although admittedly, for all we know Roy has told him he can leave and he won't be playing), and he's gone to Chelsea where there will (presumably) be even more competition for a starting spot.

Disappointing really

Roy is known for getting players punching above their weight rather than playing them out of position.

Who gives a shit?

They've replaced Cole with a worse player, it's a result

Seeya Casper! You were...sorry I've lost my train of thought

We have Pacheco coming through so I'm not too bothered.

Different types of player. Pacheco's a striker - he's not going to play wide or track back to the same extent. I like what little I've seen of him but he's not a replacement for Yossi.

Good player but...

He told the Chelsea website, www.chelseafc.com: "I am very excited to come to a club like Chelsea, it is a big club and I think it is a dream for every player. Hopefully we will be successful.“

...didn't the fucker say the same thing about us when he joined?? Plus didn't he claim that he wanted to end his career with us just recently?

If he cared for the club as much as he claimed, he would have bided (sp?) his time and seen who the new manager was going to be and stayed to fight to prove his worth here.

Never mind. Let's just hope that the money goes towards the transfer kitty.

Bye Yossi. Apparently Rafa agreed to let him go before he got sacked. Of course Broughton would sanction the move because of his destination!

I'm not fussed. He didn't want to be here so good riddance. Better players have left. So long as we got our 6 million, I'm happy!

Shame as he was one of our better squaddies and had goals in him.

Hopefully we'll be able to put that 6M to good use.
