Their talents as exception football players made them multi millionaires
It doesnt matter how talented you are if there isnt demand for what you supply.
But they didn't make Xabi a millionaire, he still did it himself.
I get what you are saying, and I'm sure we would all have more respect for Xabi if he said something similar to what you said or what Torres mentions but he was asked about how it affects players compared with Europe and he answered it, 'losing' a million pounds is still a heft amount.

No matter how much money you make you will always think about how you could have made more.
I am sure that is true about the people in this thread as well.
It is only natural that people compare themselves to people on their level.
Alonso's answers were normal and boring, and nothing to get worked up about.

I am sure people starving in the 3rd world get irked when they see people with average wages in the west striking and moaning about how they dont get more. Does that mean that normal workers in the west are 'out of touch'?
With all due respect, i dont see anyone getting worked up.
Additionally your example is weak given that Alonso is living in the same world and economic template as those who are passing comment in this thread. Whereas those in the townships of burkino faso arent.

While I generally agree that Xabi gets enough regardless of the tax rate, if my wages dropped by about half a million a year I'd certainly be a little bit pissed off by it

I'd be a bit pissed off as well, no matter how much I was earning.

sure he would get pissed off, but it would be nice to see him put it all into context and as Oncy says make reference tot he fact that regardless of the loss he is still, comparatively, earning more than most can dream of and therefore he can't complain too much.

Perhaps true but I think a few people should wind their necks back in a touch. He could have complained about no longer being able to afford daily hand-polishing of his twin Bentleys by a team of nubile young Spanish women.

Oncy's spot on.

This club prides itself on the relationship between the players and the fans, and for that brief moment Xabi Alonso lost sight of that.

It's not a massive deal, but he shoud've opted out of answering or put forward a more sensitive answer; he's been paid a fortune to play for one of the greatest clubs in the world, and his answer made him look insensitive brat to those who cheer him on every week.

Boofuckinghoo Xabi.

I feel cheated now because I don't feel as though I have any relationship with the players.

But that's where 'the relationship between the players and the fans' needs to come into play. Alonso's been here for five years, we should know he's not a pay-cheque player who moans about money and should therefore look to take the statement within a context, he's been asked a question and he's answered it, perhaps without realising it's gonna be scrutinized in the way it has. And had he not been linked with a move right now, it probably wouldn't have been.

Haha, I was waiting for you to show up.

You're largely defending his character which in no way did I implicate. And his comments would've caused slight disgruntlement regardless of constant speculation - anything which makes a footballer sound untouchable always does.

He gave a cuntish answer to a question which was designed to give one

I stand by what I said: he shoud've know better and known how his comments came across, but it's no big deal

Sorry to keep you waiting 😉

It wasn't the wisest of answers to give with things being the way they are with him right now, but as I said, had he not been in the centre of transfer speculation, no one would have given this a second thought.

I caught Gordon Brown's eye once. He said he was grateful, but it may have been tongue in cheek.

HAHAHA!
That made me laugh out loud in work at my desk. Now everyone thinks I'm mad.

I almost choked on my food when I read that.

Randomly out of nowhere.

Thanks to Macca I have food all dribbling out of my mouth, looking like a spaz.

Well, I caught David Blunketts' eye once. Never gave it back though.
