Xabi to hang up his boots

There are so many highlights, but I'll never forget that first proper introduction to a Xabi Alonso Midfield Masterclass vs Norwich.

This was football re-wrought as intellectual art.

What a pass on 1:33 in that video. Rafa got a worldie, before he was one.

I'm afraid I don't agree with that summary and never have. If I were manager I admittedly wouldn't have told Alonso he couldn't attend his child's birth, and in Alonso's place I might well have done the same as he did. However, I wouldn't then have had the cheek to get the hump over the fact that my decision carried consequences with it. Later on Rafa tried to mend his fences with Alonso and it was the player's choice still to insist on leaving. Again, one can understand that considering it was Real who came in for him. What I just don't buy is the idea that it was down to Rafa alone.

On a serious not what a player he was.
I'll never forget when in the group stages of CL I said to my then teammates that if we get out of the group we could win the whole thing and my entire belief was based on our midfield with him in.

Oh how they laughed, it was me laughing after I backed us 33/1 for 300 yo yos

His rep as a man was somewhat tarnished for me on the famous 30 man drinkies that ended in Heebues but his talent as a player is unquestionable.

We should look a few buying more players from that region.

He was brilliant. I loved watching him in the middle of the park. His passing was so good. It made us appear a much more quality outfit than we were at times. Comfortably one of my favourite liverpool players to wear the shirt. Just wish he stayed longer.
